Boulder Scientific Company (BSC) is headquartered in Mead, CO, and is a premier provider of organometallic compounds and other specialty chemicals used in a wide range of applications. BSC is a pioneer and leading manufacturer of metallocene catalysts and co-catalysts that are primarily used to produce metallocene polyethylene, polypropylene and elastomers, but also supplies products into Electronics, Pharmaceutical and Defense applications. BSC operates two sites in Northern Colorado, which include: a main production facility in Mead and a second facility in Longmont. The Environmental Engineer performs professional engineering work of considerable complexity, executes technical projects, and manages day-to-day compliance in stormwater and air environmental programs. This person supports all multimedia environmental programs at BSC's Mead and Longmont facilities including hazardous waste, stormwater, air, and general materials management.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensures BSC operates in compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Identifies, assesses, and controls environmental risks using root cause and/or job hazard analyses
  • Manages projects related to environmental improvements
  • Prepares, updates, and maintains air emissions calculations in accordance with facility permit
  • Maintains and updates air emissions inventory
  • Maintains and updates the Operating and Maintenance (O&M) Plan for air compliance
  • Collects stormwater samples, reviews analytical data, assesses the need for additional controls, and implements new controls as necessary
  • Prepares stormwater Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs)
  • Prepares, updates, and maintains the Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan
  • Provides support for capital projects impacting environmental aspects
  • Performs routine compliance inspections, prepares inspection reports, recommends Best Management Practices, and utilizes tracking tools to issue recommendations and corrective actions to responsible stakeholders
  • Prepares and reviews facility stormwater and air permit renewal applications
  • Supports audits and inquiries from regulatory agencies
  • Monitors and analyzes changes in regulatory compliance laws, rules, and regulations
  • Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities; reviews new or modified equipment and new manufacturing programs to meet regulatory and company requirements
  • Develops, tracks, and reports environmental metrics
  • Develops and manages the environmental sections of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions
  • Coordinates other environmental compliance tasks as needed
  • Must be able to pass a job-related physical

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering preferred; or equivalent work and educational qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience supporting multimedia environmental compliance programs in the chemical industry

Experience
  • General foundational knowledge of EHS laws (CAA, CWA, RCRA, DOT, etc.) regulations, and standards
  • Previous experience managing:
  • Storm water compliance programs and preparing stormwater Discharge Monitoring Reports required
  • Air compliance programs and preparing air emissions calculations required
  • Hazardous waste compliance programs preferred
Previous wastewater experiences a plusAdvanced computer skills in Windows, Outlook, Word, Access, and Excel preferred.Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment, where demands and priorities change rapidlyAbility to communicate effectively with production employees, engineers, technical specialists, and management

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to Colorado weather conditions and a manufacturing plant environment. Will be in manufacturing, storage, and lab environments that require the appropriate use of PPE. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Must be able to drive own vehicle to BSC sites.
