Our NY based (Soho area) client is seeking a Scientist/Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist to design and perform in vitro experiments to screen for and evaluate oligonucleotides for therapeutic potential from target selection to candidate selection. This is an exciting opportunity to join an early-stage company to help drive research, development, and strategic efforts to bring novel therapeutics to patients in need. This role will report directly to the VP of Discovery and Non-Clinical Development.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Participate in platform research projects focused on expanding utility, elucidating mechanism, and enhancing delivery and efficacy of RNA therapeutic platform
  • Design and perform in vitro, ex vivo, and cell-based experiments to develop, validate and implement novel assays and technologies
  • Recommend, design, and implement preclinical in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo biomarker assays to support discovery and non-clinical development
  • Experience in NGS library preparation and RNAseq and analyses strongly preferred
  • Prepare and analyze samples from in vitro and in vivo experiments using a variety of biochemical and molecular biology techniques
  • Optimize assay performance (precision, accuracy, robustness) and conduct sample testing to support drug development
  • Author, review and approve SOPs, study protocols and other scientific documents
  • Present key findings at scientific meetings, lab meetings, and to upper management
  • Develop strong relationships and communicate effectively with internal colleagues
  • Serve as the lead for collaborations with external partners

Primary Job Requirements:
  • PhD degree with 1-5 years of experience or BS/MS 5-10 years of experience in pharmacology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or a related discipline
  • Strong publication record with proven track record of independently driving scientific projects of high quality.
  • Familiarity with robotic implementation and high throughput screening preferred
  • Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture, including maintenance of primary cultures and established cell lines
  • Extensive experience with standard biochemical and molecular biology techniques, including microscopy, western blot, ELISAs, and/or quantitative protein analyses
  • Extensive experience in developing functional assays and interrogating molecular mechanism
  • Experience with molecular and cell-based assays including molecular cloning, RNA transfection, nucleic acid and protein isolation, gene expression analysis (dPCR, RT-qPCR, end point PCR incl. primer design
  • Experience with RNAseq and NGS library preparation preferred
  • Experience with designing and conducting in vitro and ex vivo cell-based pharmacology and biology assays
  • Ability to execute, troubleshoot and analyze experiments with minimal supervision
  • Documentation of procedures and results in compliance with Electronic Lab Notebook guidelines
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work as a member of a highly collaborative team
  • Excellent time and project management skills, and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
