Under contract to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ERG organizes dozens of expert peer reviews of EPA scientific and technical documents, models, tools, and other work products annually. This work involves identifying, contacting, screening, and selecting highly qualified nationally and internationally recognized experts in environmental, public health, scientific, and engineering disciplines; serving as the key point of contact with EPA clients and reviewers; and managing and administrating all aspects of the peer review process. ERG has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated candidate to be mentored into this work in order to assume full responsibility as ERG's Environmental Peer Review Manager. All work associated with this position may be performed in any ERG office or remotely.

For this position, your job duties will include:
With one-on-one training and mentoring by highly experienced ERG team members, become knowledgeable about all aspects of the peer review process.For each peer review project, serve as the ERG lead and point of contact with the client, candidates, and selected reviewers throughout the entire peer review process.Use internet searches and other strategic search procedures to identify qualified peer review candidates.Prepare all key communications, including emails and other materials, based on templates, SOPs, and prior examples.Screen candidates, track submissions, and organize key information.Select reviewers and prepare their contracts.Manage and monitor the review process.For occasional reviews conducted in a workshop format, collaborate with other ERG team members to organize virtual or in-person peer review meetings.Coordinate meeting registration and liaise with meeting participants.Consolidate final written peer reviews into a peer review report.Process reviewer invoices.Work with ERG senior management to troubleshoot any issues when they arise.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized and have:

A bachelor's degree in a scientific, environmental, public health, or related field.3 to 6 years of demonstrated highly relevant experience.The ability to work well independently, with significant autonomy, and as part of a dynamic team in a supportive and collaborative environment.Strong management, coordination, administrative, and problem-solving skills.Excellent interpersonal skills.Strong oral and written communication skills.High standards for quality in all communications and deliverables.An eye for detail and meticulous approach to required processes.Strong time management skills, including the ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities.The ability to work well under pressure, including frequent tight deadlines.MS Office Word and Excel skills.Experience conducting literature and internet searches.Experience working under federal contracts is a plus.
The role of Peer Review Manager will require an average of approximately 20 hours per week. If you would like to work more hours (up to 40 per work), you may also serve as a Task Order Manager (TOM) under a large, very active contract to provide facilitation, mediation, and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services to EPA. Responsibilities and requirements are similar to those described above. Job duties include, for each project, following a defined process to identify and select a qualified ADR practitioner from ERG's roster of practitioners; serving as the key ERG point of contact with the EPA client and the selected practitioner(s); taking full responsibility for all management and administrative tasks throughout the project; monitoring practitioner performance; troubleshooting any issues; and responding to client requests.
