Icagen's facility in Durham, North Carolina currently has an opening for an experienced and talented Senior Scientist to join our team. This is a full-time laboratory focused position offering an opportunity to play a key role in identifying novel drug candidates and advancing drug development projects. The successful candidate will be part of Icagen's Cell Biology/Biochemistry/Plate-based assay pharmacology team that works closely with the electrophysiology and chemistry teams to advance our drug discovery partnership programs. The work will be fast-paced, and process oriented in a vibrant environment which is predicated upon continuous improvement where everyone is encouraged to contribute to improving laboratory efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Propose, design, and execute experimental strategies to develop new, and advance existing drug discovery and development targets, and communicate outcomes to internal team members as well as external partners.
  • Ability to work within interdisciplinary teams is a necessary attribute for this position.
  • This position will have the goal to introduce new capabilities and workflow processes to the existing biochemistry assay development and high throughput screening teams to further enhance Icagen's already strong drug discovery and development focus.

Experience & Skills:
  • PhD degree in a relevant biological research field, with more than 2 years' postdoctoral experience and expertise in state-of-the-art cell biology, biochemistry and cellular imaging techniques, preferably in a drug discovery and development environment and ideally related to ion channel or membrane transporter function.
  • Strong background in and understanding of ion channel and/or membrane transporter biology and/or translational neurobiology cell models preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with high-content imaging instrumentation and analysis preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in cellular/biochemical assay development.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in experimental strategy development, execution, troubleshooting, analysis, and communication of findings.
  • Ability to multi-task and willingness to work effectively in a highly collaborative and diverse environment.
  • Strong aptitude to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience successfully supervising laboratory-based scientists.
  • Demonstrated track record of completing tasks within established timelines.
