BAKX Therapeutics is developing safer and more effective drugs in the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. We bring together biologists and clinicians with deep knowledge of apoptosis along with computational scientists, medicinal chemists & experienced drug developers for a uniquely integrated approach to discovering and developing drugs.
We're seeking an innovative and highly motivated scientist, reporting to the Head of Discovery Biology, to join our growing Discovery Biology team in Boston/Cambridge, MA area. This role will work collaboratively with members across different functional areas (Discovery Biology, Translational Biology, Protein Sciences, Chemistry and CADD) to design, develop, and implement an integrated platform of experimentation and cutting-edge computational tools to address the unique biology of our target proteins with the goal of driving drug discovery projects to key milestones. In this role you will have the opportunity to work closely with and learn from a multidisciplinary, deeply experienced team of drug discovery specialists and to bring your expertise/potential to impact multiple programs.

Responsibilities:
- Leverage knowledge of biochemistry, structural, molecular, cellular and cancer biology to explore the function of the mitochondrial apoptosis pathways in relevant cellular contexts.
- Contribute to and lead the scientific evaluation and nomination of new therapeutic targets/concepts to the drug discovery portfolio
- Proactively employ a breadth of biophysical/biochemical, cellular and molecular biology techniques (including genome editing, flow cytometry, gene expression analysis, cell growth and reporter assays, cell engineering) to dissect target and compound mechanism of action.
- Establish and validate in vitro biochemical and cellular assays to measure target engagement, pathway modulation and cell sensitivity in response to compound treatment
- Rigorous analysis of data -reported in an organized and timely fashion
- Troubleshoot experiments devising improvements and solutions
- Extend and diversify internal capabilities through interaction with and management of CROs
- Collaborate extensively within and across groups, regularly present research to an integrated project team
- M.S 5+ years with relevant experience in the bio-pharmaceutical/life science industry
- Proven experience developing biochemical assays and adapting established assays for higher throughput applications
- Experience in medium-throughput screening methodologies and automation
- Experience in in vitro assays against diverse targets using multiple detection modalities with proficiency in analysis of assay readouts and statistical analysis
- Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and cell-based assays
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, independently troubleshoot and deliver results in fast paced environments
- Experience in quantitative assessment of biological experiments delivering data that informs/drives drug discovery program decisions
- Proven ability to effectively work in team environment across multiple projects
- Experience mentoring junior scientists preferred
- Demonstrated adaptability and desire to learn new skills and core competencies
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with clear and effective communication skills to build positive relationships with our partners
- Deep sense of scientific excellence and integrity
- Team player first, but also someone who can easily flex to work independently to conduct research
- Comfortable with the dynamic environment in a biotech
- Ability to work in a research laboratory in Boston/Cambridge area
