Overview:
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our staff of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and internationally from our offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Santa Monica; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing. Position Summary: NRDC is seeking a Program Assistant to work with the Federal Water Policy, Alaska Conservation, and Water & Agriculture teams in our Washington, D.C. office. We seek an enthusiastic and organized individual who can facilitate the work of NRDC's Nature program. Strong research and writing skills are important.

Responsibilities:
Execute traditional clerical responsibilities, including word-processing, copying, filing, and mailingProofread, fact-check, edit, research, and generally assist in the preparation of policy, scientific and legal documents, reports, fundraising proposals, blogs and relevant program materialsCoordinate staff calendars, schedule meetings and calls, handle travel arrangementsDraft contracts, process invoices, complete expense reports, assist with budget management, and track expenses and grant allocationsMaintain paper and electronic filing systemsOrganize and facilitate program events, including outside functions

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree requiredPrevious administrative experience requiredPlease submit a Writing Sample along with cover letter and resume.Accounting skills and experience highly preferredHighly detail-oriented with excellent written and oral communication skillsAbility to work independently, follow organizational procedures and perform accurately under deadlinesSelf-directed with the ability to prioritize, manage and follow through on multiple tasksStrong research, writing, and editing skillsStrong facility with spreadsheets and databases; GIS expertise is a plusExperience in or willingness to learn legal filing requirements and certain paralegal skillsAbility to organize and manage small external eventsInterest in environmental issues is a plus.Commitment to NRDC's values and mission.NRDC is committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, both in our work and in our workplace. Salary may be higher as appropriate for the selected candidate, with internal equity considerations taken into account. Since March 2020, NRDC's offices have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You will be attached to the Washington, D.C. office, but until circumstances allow us to re-open, we will continue to support staff with remote working arrangements.
