Position Summary Odyssey Systems is currently looking for a Biologist who will support the Biological and Chemical Technologies Group, at our customer's facility in Lexington, MA.
The Biological & Chemical Technologies Group develops advanced biological and chemical technologies to address urgent national security challenges.
Capabilities within the Group include molecular, cellular, and synthetic biology; microbiome engineering; rapid DNA sequencing; bioinformatics; analytical chemistry; organic chemistry; mass spectrometry; laser spectroscopy; microfluidics; and rapid prototyping. These capabilities are applied to solving high-priority problems spanning chemical, biological, and explosives (CBE) detection and attribution; pathogen identification and characterization; point-of-care diagnostics; molecular intelligence; biosecurity; and DNA forensics. This multidisciplinary team works to solve hard problems using innovative bio/chemical engineering and analytics.
Responsibilities Duties include, but not limited to:
* Able to apply biological methods, approaches, and technologies to address critical biomedical and forensic challenges in the defense, intelligence, and homeland protection communities.
* Seeking an experienced, motivated research associate to work with staff to design and execute research and development efforts that support programs in cell biology, molecular biology, and bioengineering.
* The position involves working both independently and in project teams alongside experts in molecular, cellular, and synthetic biology, immunology and bioinformatics to achieve project goals.
Qualifications *Citizenship:* Must be a US Citizen
*Clearance:* Interim Secret Clearance to start
*Education:* Bachelor's Degree
*Experience:* 2+ years of professional experience
* At least two (2) years of professional experience
* BA or BS in biology, biochemistry or realted field
* Participate in projects that focus on building and testing engineered biological systems for a number of applications including biocontainment and biological agent detection.
* In a laboratory setting, conduct biological research as part of a larger research team.
* Execute biological laboratory procedures, perform preliminary data analysis and present results to team members and leads, and participate in technical trouble shooting and brainstorming activities.
* Work closely with experts in synthetic, molecular, and micro- biology, as well as bioinformatics, and rapid prototyping.
* Demonstrated experience with one or more bench biology skill sets (e.g., molecular biology and microbiology).
*Preferred Qualifications:*
* Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and graphical) are highly desired.
* Experience with Microsoft Excel
* DNA amplification
* DNA cloning
* DNA purification
* Immunological assays and methods
* Preparation of reagents and materials
* Standard culture platforms
* Analysis and interpretation of results
* MS Excel
*Additional Information:*
* This position will start as fully onsite but will potentially have opportunities in the future for hybrid work. Final schedule to be determined by the Hiring Manager
* 1st round interview will be a Zoom call with the Hiring Manager. 2nd round will be a Zoom call with additional team members as needed.
