- This position is responsible for supporting and implementing improvements to the Environment, Health, and Safety management systems across BioLife United States plasma collection network (160+ locations with >7,000 employees).
- Key aspects of this position include supporting and executing a comprehensive EHS program strategy in line with Takeda's Global EHS program objectives; proactively identifying significant EHS risks and creating associated mitigation plans; communicating EHS risks, EHS program strategies, and EHS program performance to Head of BioLife EHS.
- Assists in all EHS activities to maintain compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Also assists with EHS related external regulatory agencies for the BioLife US plasma collection network. Leverages the job responsibilities of district EHS members.
- Acts as EHS liaison for crisis management and emergency preparedness response related issues impacting employee/guest safety.
- Support efforts to systematically identify and assess environmental aspects of BioLife's network activities, products, and services that can be controlled or influenced.
- Coordinate efforts with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies to mitigate the impact of significant environmental aspects.
- Support environmental compliance, permitting, and reporting including but not limited to air, regulated medical waste and storm-water discharges related to daily operations and construction.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on EHS related initiatives for network expansion.
- Support the overall development, evaluation, administration, and implementation of safety policies and programs impacting the BioLife network.
- Provides technical direction as it relates to safety covered under OSHA regulations, CDC/WHO guidance and/or state/local regulations.
- Provides technical assistance to BioLife's network as it relates to safety and health risks associated with new equipment; safe work practices; and/or employee health.
- Provides routine/non-routine problem solving (risk assessments) for the management of safety risks impacting employee health to the BioLife network and other groups as directed.
- Serves as a subject matter expert and provide technical direction as it relates to safety covered under OSHA regulations and/or state/local regulations.
Occupational Health and Wellness (10%)
- Provides technical assistance to local teams to manage and minimize risks to employees experiencing potentially work-related injuries/illnesses
- Supports health policies and wellness programs, including but not limited to occupations health and risk-based health promotion programs and in alignment with global employee well-being initiatives, to enhance employee safety and wellbeing.
- Liaison between key stake holders in the management of injuries/illnesses which impact employee health/safety and workers' compensation compliance.
Crisis Management (10%)
- Supports crisis management policies and emergency response preparedness procedures for potential threats impacting the BioLife network.
- Supports emergency and crisis management events by providing guidance to mitigate negative impacts to BioLife operations.
Administrative and Policy Support (15%)

- Develops, analyzes, and monitors monthly metrics reports or other reports to assess compliance with established EHS aspects and impacts.

- Incumbent seeks advice from Head of BioLife EHS, Quality Lead, HR Lead/Manager, Regional Managers and other key stakeholders. (Internal)
- Job advises employees and managers regularly on a variety of topics, including safety risks/mitigation to reduce workplace injury/illness, etc. (Internal)
- Knowledge and application of state/local laws related to EHS and how those laws impact the facilities that are being supported.
- Continuous improvement methodologies applied within the network expansion initiatives.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Essential
- Seeks advice from business partners and other internal support functions in complex EHS matters.
- Supports changes to EHS&S process with internal and external partners.
B.S. Degree in Environmental, Safety or related field, plus M.S. Degree in Environmental or Safety Engineering or Technology (5-7 years of advanced experience may be substituted.)
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience.
- Must be conversant in EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
- Prefer a registered professional certification in the environmental or safety field (i.e. CSP, or CIH, PE) or be qualified to obtain professional certification
- Prior experience working with leaders in a large multi-site/matrix organization. Experience working in Pharmaceuticals and/or plasma a plus.
- FLSA for US - Exempt
- Travel up to 20% may be required
