Job Description
Takeda's Drug Discovery Sciences (DDS) team is developing new strategies to harness RNA modulating mechanisms and discover transformative small molecule medicines. As the Head, Director, of RNA Biology team, you will lead and expand an integrated and highly collaborative world-class research team focused on delivering effective therapies to patients in the areas of oncology, neuroscience, GI and rare diseases.

You will be responsible for identifying druggable RNA elements and establishing innovative technologies, both internally and in collaboration with external partners, to accelerate Takeda's drug discovery pipeline. The head of RNA Biology will work closely with leaders across DDS and the Takeda's organization to strengthen cooperation and identify the best opportunities to impact high priority programs.
Build a world-class research unit to discover novel small molecule modulators of RNA Lead multidisciplinary team to accelerate high-priority drug discovery programs across all Takeda's therapeutic areas: IO/Oncology, GI/Immunology, CNS, and Rare Disease. Partner with DDS' leadership team and Drug Discovery Units (DDUs) to advance the RNA modulation pipeline Implement technologies and strategies to accelerate small molecule-RNA programs Establish partnership with startups, biotech's and academic research laboratories to exploit emerging technologies and enhance Takeda's drug discovery pipeline.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Build and advance the RNA modulation pipeline in collaboration with other DDS teams Builds and enhances external network to keep a pulse on emerging technologies, novel strategies and partnership opportunities Identifies and evaluates possible collaboration with biotech's and startups Nurtures and develops teams members and project leaders Responsible for effective management and utilization of resources to maximize the team's impact on Takeda's pipeline Fosters positive and effective team culture and builds/evolves departmental infrastructure Initiates and leads external interactions and collaborations Frequent contact with internal and external personnel at various management levels Collaborates with other departments, and disciplines, acting as scientific authority within
discipline Serves as senior company / project representative at external conferences, or business meetings
EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
PhD degree in a scientific discipline with 10+ years experience , or
MS with 16+ years experience, or
BS with 18+ years experience 7 years of Industry experience required 7 years of managerial experience required Deep expertise in RNA biology nd a track record on developing effective in vitro and ex vivo studies to support drug discovery programs Experienced in the use of molecular probing, transcriptomics, sequencing and imaging approaches to investigate RNA structure and function. Ability to leverage data to inform decisions, elevate other's thinking and get to the root of the issue Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and drive alignment across key stakeholders, Strong influencing, communication and presentation skills Demonstrated ability to work across functions, regions and cultures Functional level leadership with the ability to inspire, motivate and drive results Excellent communicator, able to persuasively convey both ideas and data, verbally and in writing Embraces and demonstrates a diversity and inclusion mindset and role models these behaviors for the organization Able to support key strategic vision and implementation of portfolio-wide approach Strong collaboration skills and ability to lead in cross-functional environment
