About this role:

The Cell Engineering group at ADM, which rewires microbes to harness their metabolic energy into bio-products is looking for a motivated, collaborative and dynamic scientist. ADM Cell Engineering has impressive infrastructure to support state-of-the-art scientific research and is well reputed because of its scientists and leaders. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in conducting experiments that support all phases of strain development of a nutritional product. The scientist will be responsible to plan and execute experiments, including microbiological culturing, genetic transformation and molecular cloning. The candidate is expected to have working knowledge of microbiology and molecular biology who will get an opportunity to work with subject matter experts and support teams in a cross-functional environment. This is an important role that will enable the Cell Engineering group to increase throughput and rate of strain development via standardization and automation.

Job Responsibilities
  • Microbiological experiments using aseptic techniques for in vivo and in vitro experiments
  • Media selection to grow a microbe and study growth and other relevant phenotypes
  • Follow standard operating procedures to QC microbes and store microbial cells for transformation and fermentation
  • Carry out standard molecular biology experiments including PCR, molecular assembly, cloning, transformation, genetic screening and selection
  • Use the electronic lab notebook to record data and prepare summary reports for the team
  • Archive strains and clone libraries built by the Design Biology team
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment, including robotic platforms
  • Use a cloud-based LIMS for cataloging laboratory inventory and strain libraries
  • Prepare experimental reagents and assist in general lab maintenance and organization
  • Contribute to a team-oriented, positive, safe and inclusive work environment
  • Work with various teams and establish healthy working relationships with other employees
Job Requirements
These skills and experiences will be required or useful for the candidate:
  • Bachelor's Degree in life sciences with 2+ years relevant laboratory experience or a Master's Degree in a related field
  • Subject area knowledge in Molecular Biology and Microbiology
  • Experience with microbial culturing and sterile techniques
  • Capacity to manage large numbers of samples at a time and ability to use robotic platforms
  • Familiarity with software handling DNA sequences and knowledge of sequence alignment
  • Highly organized and capable of multitasking
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience with developing and troubleshooting assays
  • Ability to adapt and excel in a rapidly changing environment
