The Stowers Institute has an opening for a Programmer Analyst to assist the Computational Biology core facility with biological data analysis. The Programmer Analyst will use computational tools to process, transform, visualize, and analyze datasets primarily derived from high-throughput sequencing experiments. We are seeking an intellectually curious and motivated individual who would thrive in a collaborative, biology-driven team environment.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Using command line bioinformatics tools, scripts, and pipelines to process sequencing data
  • Using R or python to perform statistical analyses on data
  • Using R or python to create data visualizations to help answer biological questions
  • Creating reports to organize results and share them with collaborators
  • Follow group best practices to organize analysis results and maintain reproducibility


Minimum Requirements:
  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • A master's degree in computer science with a bioinformatics concentration or a Master's degree in bioinformatics with solid programming and analysis skills is preferred
  • Proficiency with one or more scripting languages (including Python)
  • Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment


Additional Preferred Technical Skills:
  • Experience with R, Bioconductor, and Shiny
  • Knowledge of cloud or cluster computing

In addition to outstanding communication and organization skills, the successful candidate will have strong problem solving abilities and good time management skills.
