Job Description:

Purissima is hiring a biologist (Research Associate/Sr. Research Associate) to join our Strain Engineering group. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the latest industrial molecular biology and strain engineering techniques. Experience in metabolic engineering and/or the application of various microbial strain improvement approaches and phenotypic selection are also desired. The candidate must be able to think independently and will successfully generate and characterize new microbial strains producing natural products for a broad range of applications. The candidate will be capable of working collaboratively with R&D teams and have excellent communications skills. This position comes with competitive compensation and equity participation.

  • Harness metabolic pathways through synthetic biology and microbial strain improvement strategies to optimize the biosynthesis of key natural products
  • Apply knowledge gleaned from genomic, transcriptomic, and bioinformatics data to modify outputs in lead microbial strains
  • Apply relevant genetic and phenotypic selection approaches to improve the productivity of desired natural products from engineered strains
  • Execute high throughput screens to generate unique strains with novel or improved phenotypes

  • BS/BA or Masters in a relevant scientific field with experience in the use of synthetic biology methods to modify microbial metabolic pathways
  • Experienced in optimizing natural product biosynthesis using approaches such as microbial strain engineering (genetic engineering and/or classical strain improvement), enzyme discovery, or protein evolution
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
