Position Summary:
The HSE Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the safety of employees and compliance in an industrial setting, and ensuring that the company complies with state, federal, and customer regulations on health and safety within the workplace. The successful candidate will also be responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of health, safety, and environmental programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees and compliance with our air permit.

The HSE Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the safety of employees and compliance in an industrial setting, and ensuring that the company complies with state, federal, and customer regulations on health and safety within the workplace. The successful candidate will also be responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of health, safety, and environmental programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees and compliance with our air permit.
Essential Functions:
- Perform safety orientation training for all new employees, including contractors as required.
- Perform frequent (at least daily) safety inspections of all the plant departments.
- Lead all accident / incident investigations as well as Near Miss investigations.
- Ensure that annual training in such topics as Hazard Communication (GHS), Lock-Out/Tag-Out, Confined Space Entry, Forklift Safety, Working at Heights, and other required topics are completed.
- Correct unsafe behaviors.
- Collect data as required to support our air permit.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Other Attributes:
- B.S. / B.A. degree in safety or a related field
- Broad knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of OSHA Compliance
- Coaching Abilities
- Planning Skills
- Presentation Skills
- Personable
- Enforces OSHA regulations by record-keeping and reporting violations
Preferences:
- Certification in OSHA 30 (General Industry)
- Refractory/steelmaking experience is a plus
- Experience working in a union environment is a plus
- Strong computer skills
Work Requirements:
- Must be highly organized and exhibit time management skills
- Must be results-oriented and demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Must possess good problem-solving abilities
