MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the physical or natural sciences, engineering or allied health and one (1) year of professional experience in environmental protection, regulation or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; engineering; or allied health; or

A master's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the physical or natural sciences, engineering or allied health; or

A doctorate from an accredited college or university in one of the physical or natural sciences, engineering or allied health; or

One (1) year of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida.

Professional experience in environmental protection, regulation or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; engineering, or allied health can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Possession of a valid Driver License.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Moderate travel required.

This position has regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of s. 112.313, Florida Statutes, and Section 60L-36.003, Florida Administrative Code. .

NOTES:

Successful applicant must pass a background screening, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment.

JOB DUTIES:

Evaluates and assists applicants in the permit process by providing information regarding site selection, licenses and other regulatory requirements and management practices. Serves as an advisor to the applicants in order for them to have a better understanding of the aquaculture certification process and best management practices required. Conducts monitoring and compliance surveys to determine the aquaculture industry's compliance with best management practices.

Reviews Aquaculture Certificate of Registration applications and issues or denies certificates. Audits compliance with all provisions of the certification program.

Serves as an ombudsman to the aquaculture industry assisting with permitting difficulties and encouraging industry development and growth.

Works with aquaculture business development efforts as outlined in the State Aquaculture Plan.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis principles and procedures.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific or technical data.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs.
  • Ability to understand and follow legislative policy direction as established in Florida Statutes.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
