Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Specialist

The HSE Specialist is a very hands-on key owner and contributor to the assigned sites in the region. They implement, support, integrate, and improve the Corp HSE policies, systems, standards, programs, and plans to proactively promote and maintain a healthy and safe work environment. Reporting to the Corporate HSE Director, the HSE Specialist will work effectively with other support functions and site management to assist both employees and site management, while implementing Corp HSE requirements incorporating local and regulatory nuances.

What you'll do:
  • Lead and implement Corp HSE systems, standards, programs, and plans at the assigned sites
  • Conduct HSE onboarding training for new employees via Zoom and other technologies
  • Conduct site-specific Hazard Analyses/Risk Assessments and develop and implement mitigation or control measures
  • Develop site-specific HSE compliance calendars and ensure compliance including relevant info/data submissions to regulatory authorities
  • Conduct or supervise, track, and follow-up HSE training on applicable topics including annual (or other specified frequency) refresher training; maintain training records and identify and fill gaps in training
  • Investigate workplace HSE incidents; complete root cause analyses to determine and complete appropriate CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions)
  • Adapt to sites' needs to the Corp HSE's Incident Response Protocols; test the plan annually
  • Develop and lead site specific Emergency Evacuation Plan (EEP) based on Corp HSE's template; conduct annual drills and identify gaps and improvements
  • Conduct periodic site walk throughs to assess/evaluate and mitigate potential site hazards
  • Maintain and update all Corp HSE's required monthly, quarterly, and annual HSE metrics and KPIs
  • Review all HSE standards, programs, and plans for Corporate HSE audit compliance; conduct regular audits
  • Pandemic - Implement Corp HSE's Covid-19 Safe Work Protocols (SWPs) and other plans; ensure alignment with Corp requirements as well as local regulatory requirements
  • Assist Geo and People Team's employee-wellbeing and other relevant programs where applicable and as needed
  • Provide support and guidance to facilities for Life Safety Programs and techno-regulatory advice to site/business leaders
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by Corp HSE Director


Who you are:
  • Bachelor's in occupational health and Safety (OHS) or a related field; or equivalent related professional experience
  • 5+ years of direct and full-time OHS/HSE experience
  • Certifications in OHS like ASP, CSP, CIH or equivalent and ability to get certified
  • High level of proficiency with computer systems including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • Passionate about HSE and dedicated; encouraging, persuading, and as needed enforcing HSE in the workplace
  • Anticipate problems and challenges and work to eliminate them before they happen
  • Time management, organizational, and problem solving
  • High energy and proactive as default
  • Consistently exhibit appropriate behaviors, attendance habit, and work the hours necessary to complete the job
  • Good all-around communications skills
