Job Summary
This position provides analytical expertise for multiple MSO environmental programs and leadership in developing data-driven strategies for optimized efficiencies and real-time decisions. Incumbent will supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for a wide variety of analytical and technical duties while administering programs. Directs implementation of program goals and coordinates program outreach activities.
Job Responsibilities
100.00% - The MSO Environmental Manager plans, prioritizes, supervises, trains, and reviews the work involving water, wastewater, stormwater, solid waste, and MSO related programs. The Environmental Manager will oversee the operation and function of the Household Hazardous Waste facility, as well as develop and maintain the HHW facilities and systems. This position manages the administration of MSO environmental programs including the Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG), Cross Connection Control; Compost; Stormwater Pollution Prevention; Storage Tanks; and environmental compliance. This position manages the implementation of the City"s Municipal Storm Sewer System NPDES permit. This position is responsible for program reporting including maintaining compliance with applicable government requirements and regulations and assisting in the development of metrics to measure various program"s effectiveness. This position provides subject matter expertise to programs and permits related to drinking water, wastewater, stormwater,, solid waste, and related programs. Other duties include assisting with the development and administration of the related programs budgets, various applied research projects, and backup support to activities supporting the City of Lawrence Industrial Pretreatment Program. This position serves as the department liaison with the Sustainability office and leads efforts on the department"s sustainability commitments and goals.
Qualifications
Qualifications - Bachelor"s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, natural/physical sciences, resource/operations management or a related field. At least 3 years prior experience involved in developing and administering environmental programs. HAZWOPER training or certification required within 12 months. Must have the ability to respond to a variety of program emergency calls as needed. The successful candidate must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid driver"s license and pass City background, physical, and drug screens.
