ACTIVITIES + RESPONSIBILITIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Assist with performing delineations of wetlands/waters of the U.S. per U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) requirements, and prepare wetland data reports, including GIS exhibits, to submit to the USACE for the issuance of a Jurisdictional Determination.
- Assist in required daily dredging/construction inspections for a large-scale marsh creation project in St. Bernard Parish; anticipated twice weekly for this position
- Support permit application preparation and monitoring of LDNR/USACE Joint Permit Applications including Section 401 Water Quality Certifications, LDWF Scenic River Permits, State Water Bottom Leases, and others, as necessary.
- Conducting field surveys, collecting environmental data, and providing AutoCAD/GIS support for the Coastal and Water Resources Business Units, as required.
- Travel regularly throughout south Louisiana and the Gulf Coast Region to various field sites; travel to other areas may be required.
- Perform literature reviews and background research for new projects
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
- The candidate will be expected to develop skills and advanced capabilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, Ecology or related field
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in environmental-related fieldwork including course related fieldwork.
- Proven experience with plant identification in the Southeastern US/Gulf Coast area
- Familiarity with mapping software such as ArcGIS, Survey123, and GPS devices
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Effective technical writing and verbal communication skills, with a high attention to detail.
- Candidates must be willing and able to spend long days on foot over uneven, remote terrain in inclement weather, utilizing clearing implementation including chainsaws and brush knives.
- Valid drivers license required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree preferred in environmental related field
- Wetland delineation experience.
- Understanding and experience working with of soils, ecology, and hydrology of the Southeastern US/Gulf Coast
- Basic knowledge of Section 404, 401, and 10 permitting requirements
- Basic knowledge of the regulatory agencies governing wetland resources
- Experience working from boats or other water-based vessels
- Experience with AutoCAD is a plus
