PURPOSEThe role of the Senior Environmental Health and Safety manager is to provide the workforce and their surroundings with a world class level safety environment through the development, refinement, and maintenance of EHS programs. Ensures plant level EHS programs, policies, procedures and systems are developed, implemented and sustained to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements and conformance with Marvin Engineering Co. (MEC) EHS mandates.JOB DUTIES
  • Prepare and submit all required environmental permit applications/renewals and routine agency
  • Champion and lead projects designed to effectively drive improvements in our 'Zero Incident Safety Culture' program(s). Drive and promotes zero incident EHS culture throughout site.
  • Prepare and submit all required environmental permit applications/renewals and routine agency reports, e.g., CAA, CWA, CERCLA, SARA, RCRA. Manage all plant waste disposal activity to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and enters monthly data into MESH Prism for tracking.
  • Develop/maintain all required written safety plans, e.g., HazCom, BBP, Hearing Conservation, PPE, Safety Risk Assessments (SRA). Compile required safety performance metric data for the OSHA log and for reporting to government agencies and to MEC performance metric measurement databases.
  • Develop/maintain plant emergency response plans and ensure drills are performed to document plan effectiveness. Will serve as the Plant Emergency Coordinator.
  • Serve as Disaster Preparedness Coordinator on executive level disaster preparedness team. Manage implementation of tasks associated with team's direction; personally and thru staff. Ensure training and compliance of disaster preparedness improvements throughout the organization.
  • Review plant environmental permits and ensure terms and conditions are understood and complied with, ensure required documentation is maintained and required regulatory reports are submitted to the respective agency, e.g. Environmental Permits
  • Evaluate proposed projects and propose new chemicals and ensure plans are in-place and implemented to address EHS compliance issues (Management of Change). Ensure the SDS database is up to date for all materials. Ensure required employee environmental and safety training is completed on-time and documented. May be required to perform training.
  • Develop and implement plant programs, policies and procedures to conform with MEC EHS mandates & directives. Implement plant projects to improve EHS performance and sustainability metrics. Investigate environmental and safety incidents/accidents/near misses to determine root causes and prepare and implement corrective action plans. Ensure all required plant safety inspections are performed and documented, e.g., fire extinguishers, fire risers, emergency response equipment, safety showers, eye wash stations, emergency lights, ladders, housekeeping and that corrective actions are completed for identified deficiencies.
  • Manage and maintain capital projects for critical facility infrastructure and safety programs. Evaluate facilities' preventive maintenance plans to ensure all changes that affects safety, product quality and/or operating conditions of the plant from a safety perspective.
  • Works with the plant leadership team to ensure OSHA compliance, leading approach to critical activities such as LOTO, fall protection, confined space, electrical management and related elements. Responsible for managing facility risk assessments, ensuring the all critical elements and gaps are closed on a timely manner.
  • Create a yearly budget & financial forecast, monitor spending on a continuous basis, and provide monthly adjustments to the forecast as required for EHS.
  • PPE selection and distribution.
  • Train and prepare the workforce to prevent the spread of Infectious diseases
  • Implement and train an in house group of Emergency and First aid responder's CPR AED
  • Establish, chair and maintain an effective Safety Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.


JOB REQUIREMENTSRequired (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required
  • Minimum 5 years of EHS experience minimum
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a plant-manufacturing or operations environment
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing people
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
  • Experience in digital EHS applications (i.e.: Training, Compliance, Inspections
  • 40 hr OSHA Workplace Safety training
  • 8 hr HAZWOPER
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, Biological Science, Safety Science, Business Administration or Management from an accredited institution
  • 3 years' experience with on the job Safety Manager position
  • California regulatory experience preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize, plan and execute in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality results
  • Experience leading or managing an EHS team
  • Experience in facilities management
  • Ability to obtain security clearance and support security personnel requirements
  • Strong management, coaching, and collaboration skills
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with managing the environmental, health and safety aspects of a large manufacturing site, preferably Aerospace
  • Experience in designing and successfully implementing safety management systems such as ISO 45001, Human and Organizational Performance programs, and Behavioral Safety programs to build a High-Reliability Organization
