Overview:
Schedule: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through FridayLocation: Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii 96859

Responsibilities:
Provide bioinformatics data analysis for whole genome sequencing efforts in tracking emerging infectious diseases to include examination of SARS-CoV-2 gene shifts and effects of co-infections.Meet with the senior Department of Clinical Investigation scientists weekly to review laboratory assay results, bioinformatics data, and summarization of significant findings.Provide input in experiments and other molecular and cellular biological methods, human specimen collection and data collection and bioinformatics analyses to assure the meeting of research grant objectives and deadlines.Gather data and execute clinical investigation study protocols including collection and preparation of specimens.Provide data as specified in study protocols that may require testing of devices or executing biomedical assays to include PCR, RNA/DNA extractions, quantification of mRNA with RT-PCR, whole genome sequencing. Prepare and verify quality control reagents used in a variety of biomedical assays to include PCR components, RNA/DNA extraction solutions. Prepare data summaries and research progress reports as well as preparation of data presentations and manuscript preparation. Update standard operating procedures as needed to keep laboratory procedures current and at the forefront of technology. Enroll study participants and extract chart review data or administration of surveys as needed. Track and maintain equipment and supplies for specific studies. The contract personnel shall (1) comply with applicable Tripler Army Medical Center written policies, procedures, and Army Regulations, (b) comply with applicable Joint Commission standards, (c) and comply with installation rules and regulations concerning fire, safety, sanitation, security and possession of firearms and other lethal weapons.The contract personnel shall attend training, meetings, conferences, etc. as required by Department of Clinical Investigation.Provide for travel by contract personnel to attend one scientific meeting for presentation of disease surveillance or significant microbiology findings. Contractor shall pay for travel expenses for contract personnel to present data at a scientific conference at no cost to the Government.Responsibility and Procedures. If any suit or action is filed or any claim is made against the Contractor, which occurred as a result of work performed by the contractor under this contract, the Contractor shall immediately notify the Contracting Officer and the chief of the appropriate services and promptly furnish them copies of all pertinent papers received.

Qualifications:
. Education:The contract Bioinformatics Microbiologist shall have at a minimum a Ph.D. degree in microbiology, molecular and cell biology, or doctoral degree in basic biomedical research field (to include, but not limited to physiology, biochemistry, or pharmacology) or a minimum of 10 years demonstrated laboratory research experience at the post-baccalaureate level. Licensure/Certification/Registration:None. Experience: At least seven years' experience in molecular biology genome sequencing procedures and bioinformatics analysis of microbial mutations. Demonstrate laboratory research experience or work on clinical studies to include data collection and analyses. Demonstrate research experience in complex biomedical studies including human specimen processing, molecular biology DNA analyses, and data analysis for presentation in scientific forums. Experience submitting protocols for Scientific Review, manuscript peer review for publication, and grant application for scientific research funding. Experience managing clinical specimen collection, performance of molecular biology techniques, bioanalysis of genome libraries and detecting viral and bacterial mutations and microbial variants, is preferred. Experience investigating virulence and antibiotic resistance characteristics of microbes and infectious disease spread with genome sequencing, managing a genomic library database and submitting rapid reports to government agencies when novel virus or bacteria variants sequences are identified. Must be willing to work with human specimens and animal models and adhere to all regulatory requirements associated with human study protections and laboratory animal care and use.
