Sr Environmental Specialist

In the United States, Hino Motors Manufacturing U.S.A. currently has employees in 4 states including Michigan, Arkansas, West Virginia and California. The Corporate Office resides in Novi, Michigan. Hino assembles medium-duty trucks at its Mineral Wells, West Virginia plant. Its manufacturing facilities in Marion, Arkansas produces axles, knuckles and suspension components for Toyota's Tacoma, Tundra and Sequoia. Hino's Parts Distribution Center in Mira Loma, California supplies Latin American and Caribbean distributors with genuine Hino service parts.

We are currently seeking an Environmental Sr Specialist for our Marion, AR location reporting directly to the Manager, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS). The Environmental Sr Specialist will be responsible for supporting various compliance programs and performing complex technical work in a wide range of environmental disciplines, including air quality compliance and permitting projects, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous waste/materials management, SPCC, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting and associated internal management system improvements. This individual will also manage external environmental consultants, provide environmental technical subject matter expertise, and advise and influence internal business partners in order to achieve environmental performance goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure HINO Motors operates in compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
• Identify, assess, and control environmental risks.
• Manage the application and permitting process for new projects, as assigned.
• Manage air permit and regulatory compliance including recordkeeping, air emission source testing, and periodic air emissions and compliance reporting
• Support coordination of source testing/emission testing permit requirements with Plant Operations and Process Teams.
• Support with coordination and preparation of TRI reporting.
• Prepare Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs).
• Prepare, update, and maintain Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans .(SWPPP), and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans;
• Collect stormwater samples, review analytical data, assess the need for additional controls, and implement new controls as necessary.
• Collect samples of new waste streams generated, characterize waste streams, and developing waste profiles with third party vendors to support disposal requirements.
• Support audits and inquiries from regulatory agencies, including EPA, local Fire Departments, State and Regional Waterboards, etc.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve internal systems related to chemical management, material consumption, and purchase data.
• Perform incident analysis to determine causal factors and the most appropriate corrective actions.
• Perform compliance evaluations, and utilize tracking tools to issue recommendations and corrective actions to responsible stakeholders.
• Monitor and analyze the developing trends and changes in regulatory compliance laws, rules and regulations.
• Assist in planning for changes in physical facilities, reviewing new or modified equipment and new manufacturing programs to meet regulatory and company requirements.
• Support Management of Change (MOC) for new and existing projects.
• Develop, track, and report environmental metrics.
• Develop and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions.

Requirements

Minimum of 3~5 years demonstrated environmental experience. Automotive experience highly desirable.

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or Environmental-related discipline required; Master's degree preferred.

• Professional certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
• Experience in multi-media compliance in air, water and waste for an industrial facility preferred.

• Ability and experience to develop air permitting documents and compliance programs.
• Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment, where demands and priorities change rapidly.
• Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, engineers, legal counsel, technical specialists, and management, cross functionally, in a multi-disciplinary, global environment.
• Strong foundational knowledge of EHS laws, regulations, and standards.
• An understanding of sustainability and environmental topics and fundamentals including sustainable design, planning, policy, waste, greenhouse gases/energy, responsible material sourcing, water, land use change, biodiversity, and EHS certification systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Previous experience preparing air emission air quality, stormwater and wastewater discharge reports preferred.
• Experience managing regulatory/agency inspections preferred.

• Implemented ergonomic requirements on a launch programs and areas in the plant.
• Management of all ergonomic issues with closure and follow up.
• Excellent communications with operations, manufacturing engineering and Team Members.
