About the Role: We are looking for an early career Environmental Health & Safety Associate to join our team based in Elkton, Maryland. In this role, you will work to enable the Enterprise to increase confidence in compliance with EH&S obligations. This Associate will develop and implement operational processes that enable the Enterprise to: identify, assess, manage and control EH&S operational hazards/risks and relevant costs.

Responsibilities:
  • Take ownership of and being accountable for driving Environmental Health & Safety performance through development, implementation, and continual improvement of EH&S programs, practices, and procedures
  • Coordinate with plant and divisional EH&S Associates to ensure risk management and confidence in compliance with EH&S requirements; meet operational and business needs training and coach associates in their EH&S related practices, as well as the mentorship and support of the site EH&S teams
  • Drive EH&S risk assessments for processes and equipment, including prioritization, development, and implementation of appropriate controls
  • Collect, analyze, and report EH&S metrics
  • Partner with the global EH&S team as appropriate to drive alignment and integration
  • Drive incident investigations to identify root cause and corrective/preventive actions
  • Engage and participate in new-product development teams early in the design process to ensure ergonomic principles, safety controls, etc., are incorporated into design
  • Partner with Occupational Health for effective case management involving injured/ill associates
  • Identify and understand appropriate regulations and participate in compliance-gap analysis; act as a point of contact with various regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors, attorneys, etc


Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or a related field (e.g.: fire safety or protection or the natural and/or physical sciences, or engineering, or public health) OR ability/willingness to obtain degree (associates or Bachelors) OR a minimum of 3 years EH&S experience
  • Demonstrated success in identifying, assessing, and controlling EH&S risk and implement practical and effective risk-reduction solutions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of one or more areas of environmental laws and regulations; Federal RCRA,CERCLA/SARA, TSCA, Clean Water Act, and SPCC regulations
  • Demonstrated organizational priority-setting skills, attention to detail, follow-through, effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated proven problem-solving skills including incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Demonstrated knowledge of chemical hazards and the ability to communicate associated health risk
  • Ability to build consensus and influence a diverse group of Associates in safe behaviors and practices
  • Ability to work independently, contribute within a team, and actively engage and partner with manufacturing and technical Associates
  • Ability to work off-shift hours, as needed
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or a related field (e.g.: fire safety or protection or the natural and/or physical sciences, or engineering, or public health)
  • Experience with process/equipment hazard risk analysis tools
  • Knowledge of EH&S management systems
