Silviculturist Mentor/Trainer ID: F1GAR8-055 Location: Atlanta Program: FOREST Wage/Hr: $40.00 Hours/Week: 10 Minimum Age: 55 Telework at home office to work on documents, reports, management, and training plans. Qualifications: Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience OR BA/BS Degree in Agriculture, natural resources, agronomy, or related field of study A valid driver's license. Ability to work independently Knowledge of tree physiology, forest genetics, seed and seedling biology, seed orchard management, tree nursery management, climate change, and forest health issues specific to trees and seed orchards, and tree conservation species. Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point Duties: To mentor and train Southern Research Station and staff on the National Advanced Silviculture Program (NASP) local pine module. Plan and organize the NASP module classroom, logistics, and field trip. Train silviculture candidates on the NASP local pine module. 80% Mentor staff on the NASP local pine module 15% Mentors silviculture certification task book candidates in Region 8 through the silviculture certification process 5% Other: Annual Computer Security Awareness Training. Pinyon application to access and manage NASP files. Travel Requirements: For pre-site visits for the training session and during the training as well. Overnight travel: Approximately 2 pre-site visits for 5 days/nights. One site visit for training session 8 hours/day for 10 consecutive days. Health and Safety Considerations: An on-site safety refresher will be provided for the enrollee. Required Safety Gear: hard hat, safety vest, field boots Safety Gear Use: To train students pre-site and on-site during the NASP local pine module training field trip. Physical requirements: The candidate must be in good physical condition and able to walk for site visits.
