Reporting to the Senior Director of the Policy Impact Lab, the Director of Programs for the Policy Impact Lab will lead the strategy and implementation of translating scientific research into accessible language for policymakers and the public and build out the Lab's key programs. The newly created Policy Impact Lab seeks to provide support, expertise, and policy recommendations to policymakers on both a national and global scale in order to foster stronger, evidence-based energy and climate action. The Director is responsible for the implementation, management, supervision, coordination and evaluation of all communications, outreach activities, and internal relationship-building. The ideal candidate will have subject matter expertise in climate change, environmental science, public policy, academic start-ups, management or related field.

Responsibilities

Operations and Program Management

In coordination with the Senior Director, build a new team of Climate leaders and manage day-to-day operations and communications of the Policy Impact Lab

Supervise a team of staff and provide guidance and coaching to staff members as needed.

Develop and implement strategies and management operations and ensure adherence to goals and milestones.

Develop a strategic framework to enable program success, including new processes and policies.

Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement

Convene national and global leaders to discuss urgent policy issues related to climate change

Interact with senior University, industry, corporate, non-profit/NGO, government, and community officials in the representation and development of key activities.

Develop relationships with external partners and build the processes to strategically engage them on a regular basis.

In collaboration with development, serve as a steward of program activity, interacting with existing and future donors.

Oversee monitoring and evaluation, and report on progress to stakeholders and supporters

All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required. A minimum of 5 years of related experience developing strategies and plans with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in developing strategies and plans

Experience with both academic startups and Columbia-specific programs related to climate

Outstanding organization and leadership abilities

Excellent communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills
