Michael Baker International is seeking a detail-oriented GIS Analyst to join our team with experience in evaluation and manipulation of spatial and attribute data, technical writing, and a strong interest in hazard mitigation and/or local community planning. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of experienced planners, GIS Analysts, emergency managers, and engineers dedicated to having a positive impact through intentional work. The GIS Analyst will be expected to provide data analysis and technical assistance to support Michael Baker's multi-disciplinary planning services for federal, state, and local government clients, as well as private sector clients.

Responsibilities include:
Strong knowledge of GIS concepts and spatial relationships Providing planning technical assistance to drive engagement, integrate hazard mitigation into community growth decisions, and support plan implementation.

Collecting and compiling a variety of quantitative and qualitative data to prepare reports and maps, includes technical writing and analysis

Working closely with federal, state and local governments to promote the implementation of hazard mitigation actions that reduce vulnerability to flood and other natural hazards.

Providing input to other hazard mitigation projects in coordination when applicable

Ability to provide deliverables in a timely manner

Ability to effectively communicate regarding data needs, priorities, and on support matters

Have the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time

Must be able to communicate effectively

Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams within Michael Baker International

Reconcile results of geospatial analysis and prepare documentation and reports

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Science, or related field of study

1-2 years of experience working directly with GIS data, preferably in a consulting environment

Must have the ability to work both independently, with limited supervision, and as part of a geographically dispersed team.

Outstanding written and oral communication skills

Technical documentation development skills are a plus

Ability to translate technical concepts into plain language "layman's terms"

Ability to portray technical concepts graphically

Ability to coordinate with project stakeholders

Strong analytical abilities, solid analytical skills with the ability to quickly identify and solve client issues.

Updating countywide and state hazard mitigation plans through mapping, data analysis and writing.

Conducting community and stakeholder engagement activities associated with various planning and engineering projects including contact collection, invitation development, presentation development and delivery, outreach material creation, mapping, press release development and various other media outreach creation.

Possesses a strong interest in planning, environmental sciences, climate change analysis, hazard resiliency, floodplain management, public outreach, and/or emergency management.

Proficiency in GIS is wonderful though not expected.

American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) preferred but not mandatory.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $57,740 - 60,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
