Distinguished Scentist, Group Head CryoEM/Structural Biology

Our Integrated Drug Discovery group (IDD) at Sanofi US is seeking a highly motivated cryo-electron microscopist to lead a team of structural biologists and support discovery programs for multiple disease area. We are establishing a state-of-the-art CryoEM facility in our future campus site in Cambridge (MA). The facility will be equipped with a Glacios microscope. The position is within In Vitro Biology US, an interdisciplinary team with expertise in structural biology, biophysics, molecular and cellular pharmacology.

Position Overview:
  • Recognized expert in Cryogenic Electron Microscopy and having working knowledge of other structural biology techniques.
  • Impact on small molecule programs by providing Mechanism of action studies.
  • Manage and develop local CryoEM facilities.
  • Manage and develop a group of highly skilled PhD structural biologists. Manage tight working relationships with other Structural biology groups located in the US and in France
  • Manage collaborative relationships with discovery project leads, key internal and external stakeholders, and with Therapeutic area cluster heads to resource and advance portfolio projects.
  • Maintain a national and international reputation in the external scientific community


Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for applying scientific expertise and judgement to initiate, design, direct and execute experiments and/or studies in support of research and/or development projects. Analyzes, interprets, and presents results. Demonstrates continuous growth in depth and breadth of personal scientific knowledge and understanding of strategic goals of group, team, and company. Works independently, pro-actively, is an impactful contributor and/or leader of project teams and transverse initiatives, and significantly advances R&D goals beyond group. Has a growing reputation in the external scientific community through high impact publications, productive scientific collaborations, and active participation in conferences, among other activities. Manages and provides career development for a group.
  • Bring US structural biology to state-of-the-art level in CryoEM. Manage access to our local CryoEM, improve and develop best processes to expedite SM project turn over time (driving SAR).
  • Develop and implement a structural biology strategy to the US, collaborate and have positive impact to the global Structural Biology and Biophysics Council
  • Develop and manage key interactions with the French Hub of structural biology in term of project resourcing, software harmonization, CryoEM ways of working.
  • Prioritize structural biology group resources according to project needs.
  • Identify external partners for high quality protein production of challenging targets.


Basic Qualifications:
  • PhD plus minimum 10 years of relevant research experience in biopharmaceutical setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think strategically and translate to tangible and actionable plans
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and lead scientists to work independently
