Position Summary

The Lightning Analytics team is charged with collecting, storing, and analyzing an extensive set of data from our fleet of electric vehicles. The Data Scientist role is responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models as well as other data products that provide information to decision-makers within Lightning in addition to improving our customers' experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deploy machine learning models on servers and edge devices
  • Create predictive models to help make future business and engineering recommendations
  • Collaborate with other departments to understand their needs; tailor products to fit needs
  • Other duties as assigned

Competencies:
  • Analytical: Use analytical, reasoning, and critical thinking skills to solve problems. Possess ability to collect, organize, analyze, and report on data with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Communication: Demonstrated ability to interact respectfully with all colleagues and customers. Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills are essential along with the ability to listen intently to others.
  • Self-starter: Independently start and complete projects with limited direction. Be motivated to follow-through on projects as an individual and as a teammate.
  • Time management: Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines, remain organized, and focused on work in a dynamic, manufacturing environment.
  • Customer Service: Passion for delivering exemplary service. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. You should also be collaborative and exhibit a positive attitude toward your work and colleagues.

What we require:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other closely related field of study; or equivalent work experience in a directly related role
  • 3+ years of experience creating and deploying machine learning models
  • 3+ years of experience with Python (academic work will be considered)
  • At least 1 year of experience with software development and data

What we prefer:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field of study
  • 5 years of experience creating and deploying machine learning models
  • Demonstrated experience with relational databases (SQL, MySQL)
  • Demonstrated experience with C, C++, Java
  • Experience with time-series data

Physical requirements:
  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks, including prolonged periods at a desk
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, climb, kneel, and twist.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
