Summary of Job Duties:

Our Central Laboratory Animal Facility is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician. Duties to include:
  • Perform daily animal care checks in a research environment
  • Works directly with Animal Care and Use Team (Animal Care Technicians, Facility Manager and Attending/Clinical Veterinarians
  • Ensure necessary care logs are completed daily to twice daily.
  • Proper handling of animals
  • Monitor and assist with breeding colony management and maintenance
  • Work well with technicians, research teams (post doc students)
  • Take CE courses as part of working toward additional knowledge
  • Ability to work independently in a university/research environment
  • Assist with cage changing and animal facility needs
  • Administer medications and treatment plans per DVM orders
  • Works well with diverse teams
  • Manage animal health cases under the direction of the AV
  • Assist with anesthesia monitoring and recovery.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • H.S. graduate or GED certificate
  • 2+ years of Vet Tech/ Vet Assistant experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possess basic science knowledge, preferably animal science, biology, zoology
  • Computer skills, data management experience
