At Weyerhaeuser we believe trees are a remarkable resource that can, and should, be managed responsibly to make a range of products that meet human needs, while also providing recreation, wildlife habitat, and other important ecosystem benefits. For more than a century, we've been building our reputation as a leader in sustainable forest products.

Position Accountability

Production Forestry research programs in STL and WTL lead scientific projects to improve the silviculture of southern yellow pines and Douglas-fir, respectively. The studies within the Production Forestry Research Portfolio are designed to answer short- and long-term nursery, forest management and sustainability questions associated with seedling and tree physiology, nutrition and nutrient cycling, forest health, competing vegetation, fertilization, thinning, wood quality, carbon and climate change. Each year, tens of thousands of data records are collected, quality control checked and uploaded to the Forest Research Database. The Forest Research Database is the repository of record for all silviculture, wood quality, and nursery related data in Weyerhaeuser. The Scientific Database Manager (SDBM) is responsible for maintaining and updating the structure of the database to fit the needs of the variety of data collected for internal projects as well as Cooperative research with external institutions. Ensure data completeness across all data tables for all studies ensuring that only data meeting high quality standards enters the DB. The SDBM will work with our statisticians and foresters to develop and implement quality control routines.

This role is expected to support managers, scientists, and research foresters to meet data collection needs, quality control standards, and data analytics standards. Implement high level of automation through the data curation process to minimize errors while maximizing efficiency of data handling. Maintain basic documentation and support/train data users on best practices for data handling. Maintain integrations across the system from database to field, data extraction, collection, and recoding/storage.

Qualifications

The role requires expertise in relational databases. The successful candidate will possess excellent skills in SQL and scientific programming that would support the creation and implementation of solutions for data handling and system enhancements. A good knowledge of GIS, GPS systems and data loggers is also required.
