The Certification Manager is part of the Technical Services team, and manages the daily operations of the Wildlife Habitat Council's signature corporate conservation recognition program, Conservation Certification®. This position serves as the primary point of contact for corporate applicants, and contributes to the development and build out of certification standards and required technology for quality execution. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Certification.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the daily needs of the Conservation Certification with a commitment to customer service. Daily needs include:
  • Responding to internal and external inquiries
  • Frequent outreach to current and potential certification applicants
  • Managing access to the web-based certification platform
  • Troubleshooting technical issues
  • Managing workflows and timelines for application reviews
  • Active tracking and updating of multiple datasets including related financial data (payments, forecasts, etc.)
Manage a team of external contractors serving as third-party certification reviewers. This includes hiring, training, evaluating, coordinating payments, and managing project workflows for each reviewer.Continually monitor and assess technology needs of the certification program with particular attention to the WHC Certification application platform. Responsible for coordinating with peer departments around WHC awards and the recognition of successful applicants and programs in publications, digital and printed materials, and events.Collaborate internally and externally to contribute to the continuous development and improvement of the certification program and associated standards.

Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a natural science field or equivalent work/volunteer experience
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience
  • Prior experience leading or supervising individuals or teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, relational databases (i.e., CRMs) and other technologies including project management software.

Work Environment:

WHC operates under a dispersed workforce, with the option to work remotely (from home or from a local co-working space) or to join a small WHC team working out of our office in Bethesda, MD. The Certification Manager travels infrequently as part of the functions of the role. Two types of internal events however require in-person attendance: staff retreats and the annual Conservation Conference. Additional travel needs may arise, but will be the exception rather than the rule. The daily work of this position will require extensive hours working at a computer including typing and reading.
