Under the direction of the Sr. Manager, EHS, assists in implementing and ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate environmental, occupational safety, and transportation regulations. Ensures continuous improvement of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management Systems for Apotex and Aveva Drug Delivery Systems.

Job Responsibilities:

· Develop and implement EHS standard operating procedures.

· Support the Sr. EHS Manager in the development and implementation of EHS training at all levels.

· Support implementation of proactive Safety and Health programs.

· Manage collection and disposal of hazardous, non-hazardous, and biomedical waste streams; maintain professional contacts with approved waste vendors; and promote waste minimization, cost-saving, and cost-avoidance measures throughout all operations of the facility.

· Serve on the First Aid Team.

· Serve as EHS representative in cross functional projects for new process/chemical introduction, process capacity expansion, facility changes, new equipment introduction, etc.

· Participate in EHS compliance audits and regulatory inspections.

· Conduct and/or coordinate periodic industrial hygiene, safety, and environmental sampling/testing.

· Conduct risk assessments of chemicals, equipment, and operations to specify engineering controls, work practices, and personal protective equipment, as applicable.

· Maintain EHS documentation in accordance with regulatory recordkeeping requirements.

· Assist in identifying hazardous workplace conditions and establish compliance guidelines for risk and injury reduction.

· Conduct incident investigations and prepare reports for Sr. EHS Manager review and approval.

· Working knowledge of site permits (i.e. air, industrial wastewater, stormwater, storage tank, etc.) and performance of duties to maintain compliance with permit conditions.

· Complete and submit periodic regulatory reports (i.e. Biennial Hazardous Waste, EPCRA, AOR, etc.).

· Conduct and document Job Hazard Analysis.

Job Requirements:

· Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Health or Environmental Studies (or related science) and a minimum of five years EHS experience. Hands-on experience in an industrial or manufacturing work environment is required, and experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.

Knowledge:
  • OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations (federal, state, and local), recordkeeping requirements, and guidelines.
  • Investigation practices and procedures.
  • Industrial Hygiene principles and instrumentation.
  • Business English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Candidate must read, write and be fluent in English.
  • FDA, cGMPs, and SOPs related to job requirements


  • · Skills:
  • Interpreting and applying federal, state and local regulations, policies, and technical procedures.
  • Writing technical reports, business correspondence and standard operating procedures.
  • Responding to inquires from management, employees and regulatory agencies.
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting problems, identifying solutions, recommending and implementing methods, procedures and/or techniques for resolution.
  • Managing multiple projects, duties and assignments.
  • Public speaking in large and diverse groups.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Able to make daily decisions based on experience, knowledge and analytical/logical thinking.
  • Ability to consistently interpret and apply EHS requirements to facility operations.
  • Must be computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Independent worker with excellent communication (oral/written) and people skills.
