DESCRIPTION:

The Environmental, Health & Safety ("EHS") Specialist collaborates with the EH&S and leadership teams to develop, implement, and support safety and health procedures, policies, and training to assure compliance with governmental regulations. Conducts employee safety training and develops, prioritizes, and implements EH&S training projects to protect people, products, and environment from exposure to injury, risk, or economic loss.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Promotes a proactive safety culture at all levels of the organization with a focus on employee engagement with EHS.
  • Reports all unsatisfactory conditions to appropriate personnel and EHS Management for correction.
  • Provides input for development of procedures and training materials.
  • Serve as a technical resource to the company in complex areas of EHS compliance, risk management, hazardous materials waste, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, and ergonomics.
  • Partners with the EHS Manager to determine the existence of possible environment, health & safety hazards to the organization and assists in taking steps to correct them.
  • Prepare written reports on inspection results (compliant and non-compliant), certifications, incident, injuries and illness investigations, employee complaints or concerns as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with all aspects of the Illness and Injury Prevention Plan.
  • Coordinates and documents EHS audits throughout all AZ facilities for identification of facility/jobsite hazards and risks to prevent injuries, spills, or other EH&S impacts and to ensure compliance with company safety standards and government regulations.
  • Takes a proactive part in ensuring continuation of Site Safety Committee meetings and follows up on actions at designated Arizona FMI plants.
  • Participate in meetings with government agency requirements (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT, FDA, DTSC)
  • Assist in responding to regulatory inspections, investigations and recalls
  • Work with vendors and internal business partners to promote execution of safety practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage the Safety Talk Program including creation of Safety Talk articles
  • Maintain EHS documentation such as hazardous waste manifests and audit records ensuring compliance with ISO standards
  • Ensure chemical inventories and Safety Data Sheets (SDS's), along with the site emergency response plans and reports, are current and accurate.
  • Active participant in ISO certification and re-certification processes
  • Will serve as an active member of the First Aid/CPR Responder/ERT team.
  • Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following-up with consistent discipline and retraining
  • Comply with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, Company policy and accepted safe work practices
  • Generate compliance reports as required. Update documents to remain current with the latest requirements and legislation. Serve as the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Rep.
  • Direct and Coordinate site Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability programs and compliances of ISO 14001/45001 standards.
  • Responsible for leading the successful use of EHS management systems which includes the Corporate EHS Directs, ISO 14001 certification and any other applicable EHS management system certifications or elements.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
  • Current certification in HAZWOPR and DOT hazardous materials training is preferred.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Associates Degree or equivalent preferably in Safety & Health Management.
  • 3-5 years related health and safety; manufacturing & general industry experience preferred.
  • SPCC Preparedness & Regulations
  • Haz Waste CFR49 Manifest and Control
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 and OSHA 18001 Standards and processes.
  • Subject Matter Technician knowledge of 29 CFR 1910 (Occupational Safety and Health Standards).
  • Solid knowledge of processes of hazardous waste for large or small quantity in the state of Arizona
  • Current FA/CPR/AED first responder training preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly both in written and verbal formats
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and ensure that plans, guidance, and advice is accurate, timely and effective.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel; PowerPoint is a plus.
