Research Landscape/Wildlife Ecologist

Title: Research Ecologist in the USDA Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest Research Station. 

Possible Duty Stations (all in California): Arcata, Davis, Redding, or Riverside.

Responsibilities: We seek to fill a full-time, permanent position for a research landscape ecologist capable of addressing questions concerning forest vertebrates in California.  The scientist will be an integral part of research teams comprised of scientists, professionals, technicians, and administrative staff.  Research expertise of the applicant may be on species, populations, communities and/or ecosystem level questions, but the successful applicant will demonstrate an interest in, and the ability to, advance knowledge of how vertebrate populations of special concern respond to combined changes in climate, habitat, and human use of resources.  Experience in modeling relevant to the research questions above and/or evaluation of monitoring data collected on vertebrate species at risk will be particularly valued.  

This position will be housed in the research branch of the USDA Forest Service in the Pacific Southwest Research Station.  Applicants should have an interest in participating on multi-disciplinary research teams involving scientists throughout the Pacific Southwest Station, and in working with the management branch of the Forest Service to co-produce knowledge that helps inform decision-making.  The selected candidate will receive mentorship from a local team of scientists in all aspects of the position and how to be effective in the Agency.   

Qualifications: Ph.D. in a biological discipline relevant to landscape ecology, wildlife biology, or ecology. The candidate should demonstrate research excellence, creative problem solving, the ability to build a research program as documented through peer-reviewed publications, and the ability to collaborate.

Salary: GS-11, 12 or 13, depending on qualifications
