Mersana Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRSN) is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company using its differentiated and proprietary antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) platforms to develop highly targeted drugs with increased tolerability and expanded opportunities to deliver meaningful clinical benefit to patients. Mersana's lead product candidate, XMT-1536, is in a Phase 1 clinical trial in patients with tumors expressing NaPi2b, including ovarian cancer, NSCLC adenocarcinoma, and other cancers. In addition, multiple partners are using Mersana's platform to advance their ADC pipelines.

Mersana's mission is to discover and develop life-changing antibody-drug conjugates for patients fighting cancer. We seek individuals who share our excitement about the possibilities our proprietary drug conjugation platforms offer, as well as our commitment to making a meaningful difference for patients and their families. At Mersana we have a highly collaborative culture and believe that our collective ability to make a difference exceeds the sum of our individual efforts.

What's in it for you?

You'll lead our discovery pipeline as well as the Biology component of innovation research. You'll manage a large contingent of the Biology group. You'll have the opportunity to set direction for and oversee execution of target identification and validation, discovery, Development Candidate nomination, and translational research and clinical team support across the pipeline. In partnership with Chemistry, you'll lead Innovation research by driving strategy and overseeing execution. You'll define new areas of exploration and generate data to directly impact the direction of Research at Mersana. This level of responsibility will give you substantial exposure to the Executive Team and the Scientific Advisory Board, as well as external-facing discussions.

You'll immerse yourself in one of the hottest therapeutic modalities in oncology: antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) - and it's OK if you don't have ADC experience. You'll gain experience in ADCs including the validated approach of cytotoxic payloads (e.g. our auristatin-based Dolaflexin and Dolasynthen platforms), and the emerging, cutting-edge field of immunomodulatory payloads (e.g. our STING agonist-based Immunosynthen platform).

How do you know if you're the right fit?

Your understanding of cancer biology is thorough and authoritative. Your accomplishments in oncology drug discovery have provided you with perspective to inform strategic thinking, an appreciation for detail, and a deep understanding of what is needed to validate a target, define a Development Candidate, and prioritize translational research activities. Experience in biologics and/or fields related to our platforms (immune-oncology or cytotoxics) is a plus. ADC experience is not required.

You thrive in a collaborative team environment, and you enjoy coaching scientists and project teams by providing feedback and encouraging professional development. You savor growth opportunities and new challenges. You are an outstanding communicator and appreciate what level of scientific detail is optimal for various audiences. You have an executive presence and gain respect of key stakeholders.

The other stuff

This is typically a role best suited for a Ph.D. in cancer biology, cell biology, or related discipline, with industry experience in oncology drug discovery and a track record of publications in top-tier peer reviewed scientific journals.

Position is eligible for bonus, option awards and benefits including medical, dental and life insurance, 401(k) participation, vacation and paid holidays.

Successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
