Environmental Health and Safety Director

Provides in-house Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) direction, support and guidance to the Operations network, which includes our Plant and Logistic Operations. Ensures sites follow applicable EH&S regulations as well as Corporate H&S policies. As a member of the Operations Leadership Team, represents the EH&S function creating/driving EHS strategy, developing site-specific action plans with the Plant/Department leadership team and serving as a coach/mentor to junior EHS leaders and less experienced operations personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

Provides strategic direction to the Leadership Team and senior leaders at the site related to EH&S programs to drive continuous improvement
Provides guidance/support to the site on new business opportunities and projects
Represents the Leadership Team as needed at Tier Boards, Meetings, Town Halls, etc.
Reports to Vice President of Operations and leads all aspects of the development and implementation of EHS Policies, Procedures and Programs
Lead, coach & mentor the Operations teams regarding EHS topics, including but not limited to LOTO, PIV, PPE, Confined Space, Contractor and Electrical Safety, Emergency Response, Hazard Communication, Hot Work, Machine Guarding, Occupational Health, Working at Heights and Walking/Work Surfaces
Create strategic plan for the site to drive continuous EHS improvement
Leads the strategic and continuous operational plans for managing compliance of waste, storm water, air quality, SPCC (oil handling) and water (effluent discharge)
Develop Best Practice programs
Report Metrics to Corporate and Site Leadership teams
Point of contact for EHS matters with site staff, regulatory agencies, and clients
Participates in the strategic approach to site security and ensure adequate resources are provided to support site security needs and leads the development and implementation of physical security, emergency preparedness, and safety strategies that align with industry standards
Lead strategic initiatives to reduce physical security risk at the site, in partnership with key stakeholders
Develop and manage all site security operating procedures
Assist in coaching/mentoring smaller sites within the network and, when vital, provide support
Participates on local advisory committees, industry committees and networks to promote Divert Inc and to represent the company as the need arises.
Identifies industry (including regulatory) changes that may affect site operations and assists to develop and implement plans to meet compliance requirements.
Selects, develops and evaluates staff to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Works with and advises staff on administrative policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Life Sciences, Natural Sciences or related field; Master of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene preferred
EH&S Certificate or Diploma
CHP or other Professional designation in Health & Safety preferred
Minimum 10 years of previous Environment, Health and Safety experience in an industrial or related environment
5+ years of food processing, oil & gas, or similar industry experience preferred
5+ years proven experience leading direct reports
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered

Demonstrated success in successive leadership positions
Well versed in EH&S legislation
Ability to coach and develop staff and the technical ability to coordinate departmental business activities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to motivate and lead.
Well organized and detail oriented.
Excellent computer and database skills.
Excellent presentation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Proficiency with the English Language.
