Charles P. Johnson and Associates, Inc . is seeking a Natural Resources Specialist to join our Greenbelt, Maryland office. Job duties will include performing Natural Resource Inventories; Forest Stand Delineations; wetland delineations; stream and stormwater facility assessments; plan and report preparation and coordinating with municipal, county, federal and state resource agencies. Working knowledge of CAD and field GPS use is preferred. Strong knowledge and experience in one or more of the following fields desired: plant identification (including trees/shrubs), soil profiling, topographic survey. General natural resources knowledge/interest is required. Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors highly desirable, with a willingness to travel regionally. BA/BS in Landscape Architecture, biology, forestry, ecology, or closely related discipline preferred. The position includes local travel, field work, and interaction with clients and agencies. An understanding of regulatory requirements, and the review and approval processes within the various local agencies is desired. The applicant will be working in a team environment with other Natural Resource Specialists, Landscape Architects, Engineers, Surveyors and CADD technicians.
Primary duties
· Perform natural resource field inventories, delineations, and assessments
· Prepare field sketches and reports
· Coordinate with other departments, clients, and agencies
· Assist other divisions of the company with field work as necessary (i.e., stormwater management inspection, stream restoration monitoring, field measurements)
· Maintain vehicles and equipment ensuring they remain in proper working order and available for use
Required Skills and Experience:
· Coursework or equivalent experience in Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Environmental Science, or related field.
· Possess valid driver's license
· Knowledge of plant identification and wetland ecology
· Ability to negotiate difficult terrain and obstacles associated with forested and urban environments and confined spaces.
· Ability to perform work in various weather conditions and environments (including prolonged periods of standing and walking)
· Ability to lift fifty pounds
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Possess a strong work ethic with ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment
· Utilize good written/verbal communication
Preferred Skills and Relevant Certifications:
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically with Word, Excel, and Outlook
· Proficiency in AutoCAD and ArcGIS
· Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Environmental Science, or related field.
· Registered Landscape Architect
· Maryland Department of Natural Resources Approved Qualified Professional
· ISA Arborist / Maryland Tree Expert
· Professional Wetland Scientist or WPIT
· Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional
· Applied Fluvial Geomorphology (Rosgen Stream Classification)
· Confined Space Entry
