Gelest is a specialty chemical company that has been experiencing steady growth which results in a fast paced and challenging work environment. The Environmental Specialist will work with product and operations management to ensure that the product safety and compliance process meets all applicable regulatory requirements.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (i.e. regulatory, environmental, chemistry).
  • A minimum 3+ years of related experience in the chemical industry, regulatory/environmental experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable federal and state chemical management regulations and the ability to stay current on regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Coordinates with multiple departments/stakeholders to request, develop, and prepare required data and reports to be submitted to regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborates with key staff from Environmental and Regulatory team along with Product Management, Operations, and Legal departments as required.
  • Maintains required environmental records and performs annual reporting to include: Air Emissions, Tier II, and TRI, etc.
  • Notifies Regulatory Affairs Director or appropriate team when compliance issues arise or are identified, and when other immediate action is required.
  • Responsible for monitoring and communicating when changes in regulations occur.
  • Serves as a representative for the regulatory affairs department at process review meetings.
  • When practicable establishes and maintains business relationships with officials in federal and state government regulatory agencies.
  • Provides cross-functional support for regulatory team and other related duties as assigned.
  • Synthesizes complex or diverse information.
  • Strives to continuously build regulatory knowledge and uses feedback to improve processes/procedures.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail.
  • Works well in group problem solving situations.
  • Writes clearly and informatively.
  • Communicates changes effectively.
  • Understands organization's strengths & weaknesses and business implications of decisions.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers.
  • Presentation skills required for small and large audience.
