Whether our customers are accelerating life sciences research, solving complex analytical challenges, improving patient diagnostics and therapies or increasing productivity in their laboratories, we are here to support them. **Location / Division** Carlsbad, CA / Clinical Next-Generation Sequencing **How will you make an impact?** We are seeking a Scientist III to join our R&D team for development of next generation sequencing (NGS) applications for use in research laboratories. **What will you do?** + Develop and launch new products by initiating and executing scientific research and/or development strategies and working closely with cross-functional teams including Bioinformatics, Marketing, Technical Support, and/or Operations + Work with a multidisciplinary technology team for the development of NGS applications + Carry out experimental design and execution, library preparation, instrument operation, data analysis and results reporting + Contribute to next generation sequencing using the Ion Torrent Technology + Develop new applications, library preparation technologies, and products + Perform product verification and validation **How will you get here?** **Education / Experience** + BS degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields AND 6+ years of industry/academic experience in these disciplines; OR master's degree AND 4+ years of industry/academic experience; OR PhD in one of these fields **Knowledge, Skills, Abilities** + Background in molecular biology, biotechnology or biochemistry + Strong skills in molecular biology (including DNA, RNA and protein handling, PCR, qPCR, quantification methods) + Knowledge of basic data analysis and interpretation (proficient in related Microsoft Office applications) + Basic knowledge of genomics + Ability to follow molecular biology protocols and plan modifications to test experimental conditions + Be comfortable working in a large and busy laboratory with many other team members **Preferred Qualifications** + Hands-on experience in next generation sequencing, including library preparation + Broad knowledge of sequencing and molecular amplification methods + Experience with NGS systems, especially Ion Torrent + Experience with advanced data analysis methods (e.g. R, JMP, python) Our global team of more than 100,000 colleagues delivers an unrivaled combination of innovative technologies, purchasing convenience and pharmaceutical services through our industry-leading brands, including Thermo Scientific, Applied Biosystems, Invitrogen, Fisher Scientific, Unity Lab Services and Patheon.
