Overview:

VHB's Environmental Group in Hauppauge, NY is looking for a Summer Intern to assist with Environmental Assessment Forms (EAFs), Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), other environmental planning efforts. Other technical tasks may include develop GIS maps, data management, preparing permit applications and report writing. This is a paid, on-call internship to extend to the end of September 2022 contingent on available work. This position would provide an opportunity to explore the aspects of environmental planning and consulting.

VHB's passionate professionals include engineers, scientists, planners, and designers that provide a full array of integrated environmental planning services to private sector clients, and municipal, state and federal governmental agencies.

Responsibilities include

Assist with field data collection using GPS mobile technology

Assist with research to inform various environmental analyses

Work with technical team members to prepare Environmental Assessment Forms

Work with technical team members to prepare sections of Environmental Impact Statements

Attend/participate in internal and client project meetings

Coordinate with team members to prepare deliverables

Assist in developing GIS maps and other graphical data presentations of collected data.

Compile, analyze and interpret data for internal review with the EV team.

Skills and Abilities

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to research, organize and analyze data

Ability to utilize GPS equipment to record data in the field, as needed

Capable of assisting with the preparation of meeting notes, reports, Power Point presentations or other technical deliverables.

Qualifications

0 - 2 years of experience in an environmental planning/science environment

Enrolled in a Bachelor (B.S.) program or a recent graduate of a four-year college environmental engineering and/or other environmental studies program

Prior experience with sustainability, or energy a preferred

GIS experience is desired

Availability to work 40+ hours weekly throughout the summer period starting in July 2022
