Location: Boston Teaching Hospital
- This critical safety position will supervise the Ambulatory/Offsite Safety and program within the Environmental Affairs department and support key CMS/Joint Commission Life Safety and Environment of Care compliance programs.
- The position will work closely with Ambulatory Leadership, Facilities and Engineering departments and building management companies to accomplish requirements of the role.
- The position reports to the EH&S Manager and ultimately to the Director of Environmental Affairs, supervises up-to two technical staff and is responsible for leading planning and tracking the environmental health, safety and permitting programs with an emphasis on CMS/Joint Commission, OSHA, DEP/EPA, and the local town/city permits while standardizing programs with the hospital.
- The role will also lead or participate in a range of other critical safety and compliance program elements that directly impact the quality and safety of patient care and research as well as regulatory risk to the enterprise.
- Ultimately, this position supports and collaborates closely with all Environmental Affairs Department (EA) activities and team members who aim to manage risks of workplace injury and illness and maintain compliance with pertinent EH&S codes, standards and guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in the environmental health & safety or related field with 3+ years of experience required.
- Master of Science in health, safety, risk or public health related field preferred.
- Knowledge in Building Engineering Systems and Trades.
- Experience reading blueprints/floorplans.
- Basic competency in general chemistry.
- Capable of performing tasks while wearing a respirator and/or other personal protective equipment.
- Professional certifications (e,g. CSP, CIH, CHMM, HEM) preferred.
- OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred.
- RCRA/DOT certification preferred.
- Experience with CMS/Joint Commission Codes preferred.
- Ability to read sources of chemical hazard information, recognize risks and apply pertinent safety practices.
