DescriptionABOUT YOU
You are a highly-motivated, mission-driven environmental professional that is eager to take action against climate change as part of a leading carbon markets team. Your previous experience at 3Degrees and inherent motivation to protect our environment makes you eager to become an expert in carbon markets. You have had exposure to and possess a basic understanding of carbon credits and the voluntary carbon market. You enjoy working with data and bringing stories to life through visualizations tools and techniques. You have strong presentation skills and a sales aptitude.
This is a full-time, exempt role reporting to a Product Manager within the Carbon Markets Commercial team. This position is located in the Portland, OR area and may report to the office once Covid allows. Remote will be considered for highly qualified candidates.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Carbon Markets team develops and manages projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and creates opportunities to monetize the environmental benefits generated by those projects. The primary goal for this position is to contribute to the potential and capacity of the commercial carbon team and provide support to internal teams such as Sales, Marketing, and Trade Operations. As a Commercial Carbon Associate for 3Degrees you will work independently to support the day-to-day operations of the commercial carbon business, as well as providing cross functional support to Business Partnerships, Marketing and other business units across 3Degrees.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Commercial Carbon Associate's duties will focus substantially on:
Supporting the day-to-day management of 3Degrees' carbon offset portfolio including managing inventory, demand, supply assignments and product deliveries.
Supporting the carbon offset transaction process from deal entry all the way to contract signature
Performing market analysis/research and monitoring market trends to help inform purchasing decisions and support conversations with Business Partnership's clients
Data set manipulation and management, synthesize with accuracy and efficiency
Converting research and market data into visual stories utilized by internal and external stakeholders
Confidently communicate information on the voluntary carbon market to a wide range of Carbon Markets clients and stakeholders
Collaborating with teammates and cross functional activities and projects as necessary
WHAT WE SEEK FROM YOU
Ideal candidate will bring 2 to 4 years of experience in the environmental sector
Four-year degree, ideally based in environmental studies/science, business/or equivalent combination of professional experience and education.
A basic understanding of carbon offset projects and the voluntary carbon market
Extremely high attention to detail
Strong Excel skills and ability to synthesize large datasets
Curiosity to improve data visualization, storytelling skills, and create communicative charts
Ability to produce impeccable written deliverables
Demonstrated ability to effectively work as a member of a team, with great listening and oral and written communication skills.
Eligibility: If this role is within your current department, employed (and currently in good standing) with 3Degrees for at least 6 months by the start day of this new role. If this role is outside of your current department, employed (and currently in good standing) with 3Degrees for at least 1 year by the start date of this new role.

HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS
In this role, you will work alongside other members of the Carbon Markets team to achieve their strategic goals. Success factors specific to this role include:
Within the first 6 months: Mastery of the voluntary carbon market fundamentals, including but not limited to, the key market participants, project types, and the credit creation process. Deep understanding of 3Degrees' carbon business including the value we provide to customers and the larger carbon market.
Within the first 12 months: Mastery of basic portfolio management functions; conducting market research and analysis with minimal oversight and supporting Sales and Marketing deliverables (support RFP responses, project profiles, etc.)
