Job Description
  • Project Management. Oversee the technical soundness of new initiatives
  • Provide technical guidance to the staff; this includes guidance regarding techniques, problem solving, methodologies and quality control
  • Sample analysis and reporting. Review data and reports for accuracy, content and adherence to quality control policies
  • Participate in professional development activities (i.e. publication of papers, active participation in appropriate organizations, attending classes and seminars, etc.)
  • Consult with Laboratory Manager and QC Manager to ensure all applicable policies and procedures of SGS Forensic Laboratories.
Qualifications
  • 4 year degree in microbiology, food science, biology, or related discipline or equivalent industrial laboratory experience. Completion of professional level courses in Microbiology Coursework with a minimum of eight (8) semester hours of coursework.
  • Bacterial identification training records that document training in relevant diagnostic procedures for bacterial identification.
  • Two years of experience in the selection, and use of bio-aerosol, surface, fluid and raw material sampling methods.
  • Fungal spore identification.
  • Must have NVA AND NVB experience.
  • Active membership in at least one professional organization is desirable.
  • Experience with Windows PC and Microsoft Office - LIMS software experience a plus
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
  • Ability to think independently while working in a team environment
  • Detail-oriented
  • Utilize aseptic technique during sample preparation and microbiological/chemical analyses
  • Prepare test solution and reagents
  • Proper labeling, handling, storage, use, and disposal of solutions, biohazard and hazardous waste, and microbiological cultures
  • Perform serial dilutions and enumerate target microorganisms according to standard operating procedures
  • Preparation and sterilization of culture media
  • Extraction of desired components from samples using standard chemical procedures such as distillation, solvent extraction and acid digestion
  • Analysis of chemical composition using standard laboratory equipment
  • Maintenance and verification of general laboratory equipment
  • Documenting and recording accurate data using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Managing time and tasks efficiently while maintaining excellent quality of work
