MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND RECOMBINANT VIROLOGY INTERN Location: Kalamazoo, MI Internship Summary: We are seeking a motivated and curious summer intern to work with the team involved in development and utilization of several Recombinant Virus platforms, with the overall objectives to develop and characterize novel recombinant viruses for potential utility as vaccines. A variety of molecular biology and virology techniques will be applied to engineer and characterize constructs via both bacterial (E.coli) and eukaryotic cell culture manipulation techniques. Interest and/or experience with molecular virology a plus. Internship Job Duties: * Assist in generation of variety of recombinant viruses * Synthesize, clone and characterize constructs for assessing transgene expression * Compare biological properties (virus replication, protein expression, etc) of recombinant viruses via multiple methods (qPCR, Westerns, ICC-IF, etc.) * Sequence comparisons and confirmation of viruses Internship Qualifications: * Ph.D. or MSc student in microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, or related fields. * Experience with a variety of molecular biology techniques (PCR, nucleotide extractions, E.coli propagation and manipulation, cloning, transformation, etc * Experience with eukaryotic cell culture, transfections, etc * Experience/familiarity with virology techniques, propagation, plaque purification, a bonus * Interest/Experience with various genome engineering techniques * Must be a self-motivated post-graduate student with virology experience and an interest in applied microbiology. * Enrolled in a degree program during the Spring term preceding internship * Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies and a 3.0 GPA or higher * At least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the U.S. * Successfully pass a background check and drug screen * Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving & analytical skills Full time Intern (Trainee) Colleague Zoetis is committed to equal opportunity in the terms and conditions of employment for all employees and job applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, gender identity or gender expression, national origin, disability or veteran status or any other protected classification.
