Summary: We are currently seeking a Sr. Scientist/Research Fellow to join our experienced drug discovery and development team to help drive our new target research efforts in Newark CA. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and executing upon proof-of-concept cell-based and in vivo animal models for new targets in vascular biology and inflammation. The candidate will also work closely with chemists, pharmacologists, and in vivo scientists toward identifying a suitable development candidate. Level and title to be determined based upon candidate qualifications. Responsibilities: * Reports to VP of Biology and will serve to drive new target and new indication program efforts primarily at the level of in vivo model POC. * Engage in peptide drug discovery and translational research projects with emphasis in vascular biology and inflammation. * Develop relevant pharmacology assays for selecting peptide lead candidates. * Closely study discovery and clinical-based literature to help develop new target hypothesis and POC experimental design * Work closely with in vivo pharmacology groups to develop relevant in vivo models critical to the evaluation of POC, compound activity, mechanism of action and generation of key data sets that drive drug discovery programs. * Develop and validate diagnostics and in vivo biomarkers that can be used in human clinical settings to evaluate target engagement and pharmacodynamics. Requirements: * Ph.D. in biology, pharmacology (or a related discipline) with a minimum of 10 years of industrial experience. * A keen knowledge of in vivo models and systems for compound evaluation in broad-based disease settings (vascular biology, metabolic, etc.) and a deep working knowledge of the animal models required to progress candidate molecules. * Experience/knowledge in vascular biology, immunology, and/or GPCR biology is a plus. * A commitment to high-quality research and the execution of research plans in a timely and organized manner. * Strong written and communication skills; and an ability to work effectively with a diverse team of co-workers in a dynamic environment.
