About this Role: The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology is seeking applicants for a Fellow (Post Doc) position. The purpose of this position is to provide training and research support to the Center for Outcomes Research and Epidemiology (CORE) and collaborate on the ongoing and developing research initiatives between CORE and the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF). Duties / Responsibilities: * Support implementation of several studies as they pertain to fundamental physiological, cellular, molecular and immunological analysis of animal systems following virus challenge or provision of sorghum feed. Data collection, cleaning, and data mining, and literature searches. * Participate in the design, data collection, interpretation and reporting of data pertaining to research related to mammalian responses to arboviral infections, animal health, and veterinary medicine. * Scientific writing; scientific manuscripts for publication and reports. * Help implement and administer projects, disseminate new knowledge and tools resulting from research. Required Minimum Qualifications: * Ph.D. in the biomedical sciences with expertise in immunology, virology, and/or molecular biology. Alternatively, a DVM plus graduate degree (i.e., MS or PhD), or successful completion of three years of an internship, residency program, and/or fellowship training program in a discipline related to the position (e.g., pathology, lab animal medicine) * Experience working with or conducting studies with animals - rodents, food animals, and/or companion animals * Documented expertise in generating and analyzing biological data relevant to immunity or immune responses including analyzing mammalian antibody responses * Documented ability to independently analyze and present scientific data at meetings and prepare and submit scientific reports and publications * Ability to collaborate within a research team Preferred Qualifications: * DVM and Ph.D. in immunology, molecular biology, virology, or related field with training in viral immunology * Hands-on skills in generating and maintaining primary swine cells including peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and pulmonary alveolar macrophages (PAMs) * Experience testing livestock for the induction of humoral and cellular immune responses by developing/optimizing assays including: plaque reduction neutralization, EliSpot, IHC, FACS, ELISAs * Virological laboratory experience - IFA, virus isolation, virus purification, virus titration and quantification * Experience studying macrophage characterization and function * Ability to acquire and maintain a DOJ Select Agent clearance as well as necessary medical clearance to work with animals in the BSL3 level of biocontainment Special Instructions to Applicants: Please submit cover letter, resume, and contact information for three professional references Screening of Applications Begins: Screening of applications begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
