About the Job Job Duties/Responsibilities: * 90% - Regularly conduct experiments in molecular cardiology, including data analysis according to established guidelines. Responsible for the design and implementation of experiments and with development of new experimental protocols. Candidate will be monitoring and analyzing data and the troubleshooting of experimental data acquisition. Consult and participate with other researchers within the lab and other outside units. * 5% - Assist with various administrative duties related to the functioning of the laboratory, including the mentoring and supervision of undergrad students and volunteers. Prepare data for publication. Create data collection tools, protocols and guidelines. * 5% - Assist with ordering of supplies and reagents as needed. Attend meetings as required. Assist in the maintenance of a small mouse colony. We seek mechanistic insights into normal and diseased cardiac muscle function. Our overarching goal is to translate basic science discoveries into potential therapeutic strategies to combat inherited and acquired forms of heart disease. For more information, please visit: Metzger Lab | Medical School - University of Minnesota (umn.edu) Qualifications All required qualifications must be documented on application materials REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Masters degree in Biology, Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Physiology or related field plus two years of lab experience OR a Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences and four years of related experience. * Experience with modern molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, Western blotting and/or protein biochemistry. * Experience with viral vectors. * Demonstrated experience with stem cells, including iPSCs and their differentiation. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Two to five years experience in a scientific lab with supervisory experience a plus. * Two to five years independent research experience. * Experience working with research animals. * Willingness to learn new techniques and methods. * Ability to work well within the lab group and with collaborators. * Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. * Evidence of being capable of troubleshooting experimental problems independently and to think critically about their research.
