Position Title: Research Technician on Molecular Biology and Protein Biochemistry Posting Number: R2000041 Employer: Research Foundation Salary Range: Competitive FTE: 1.00 Position Summary: The Qin Lab at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is seeking a skilled, motivated technician with a background in molecular biology and/or protein biochemistry. The lab studies structures and functions of TRP ion channels which are responsible for pain transduction including the sensation felt from consuming hot peppers. The study utilizes a variety of techniques, ranging from electrophysiology, biochemistry, cryo-EM imaging (in collaboration with Dr. Qiuxing Jiang at Hauptman Woodward Institute), and also computational simulation and modeling. The lab has excellent facility including high-end patch-clamp stations, fluoremeters, spectrophotometers, pcr themocycler, ultracentrifuge, size-exclusion chromatography, cryo plunger, glow discharger, and high-performance computer workstations. The successful candidate will join the lab and provide technical support for the ongoing research, including side-directed and chimeric DNA mutagenesis, protein purification and sample preparation, and possibly maintenance and transfection of cultured cells. Practical experience with molecular biology site-directed mutagenesis and general mutagenesis and sub-cloning strategies is a must.
