Research Scientist III - Center for Addiction Research- Translational Biologist

Job Summary:

Experienced, highly motivated Translational Biologist to drive psychopharmacological innovations that will be commercialized and improve mental healthcare. The position will lead research efforts for novel compounds through lead optimization and IND-enabling studies. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of drug discovery, and a track record of excellence in comparable environments. This position bridges academia and private companies, creating a unique position that integrates science into the shared goals of all stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires terminal degree (Ph.D.) demonstrated success in the field or master's degree and a minimum of two additional years of relevant experience, such as lead scientist; demonstrated knowledge of the drug discovery and development processes; knowledge of documentation in a research environment; experience with creating manuscripts and presenting data in a collaborative team environment; advanced organizational and project management skills.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Provide expert assistance in the design and execution of all translational studies to evaluate candidate molecules
  • Drive project progress forward by ensuring that all experiments are completed and reported in a timely manner
  • Be responsible for translational model design, use, and data interpretation
  • Maintain all cellular models and assist in pharmacological, biochemical and bioresponsive assays in vitro and eventually behavioral assays
  • Maintain equipment necessary for the completion of these studies
  • Research existing literature to formulate new strategies to fully interrogate these candidate medications/molecules
  • Document experiments and results in laboratory notebooks
  • Communicate results in both written and oral reports
  • Draft manuscripts and present scientific results at meetings
  • Maintain a safe and productive laboratory environment
  • Work on several different projects of varying lengths and complexity

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Holds a Ph.D. degree in translational biology, pharmacology or related
  • Has four years of translational biology lab or related relevant experience
  • Has a strong knowledge of cell culture, including cell isolation, establishing primary cultures as well as maintaining and working with immortal cell lines
  • Has excellent written, organizational and documentation skills
  • Has demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Experience in working as part of a multidisciplinary team highly desirable
  • Previous neuroscience research experience is an asset
