Saint-Gobain's North American R&D center is looking for a driven, talented, and energetic entry level researcher to join our current team in conducting hands-on laboratory experiments for key development programs. The selected candidate will contribute to the growth of the group by enhancing our applications knowledge and effectively supporting new product development, testing and launches.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilizes basic scientific or engineering principles and techniques to undertake specific tasks and projects with defined scope.
  • Carries small projects or studies through to successful completion. Guidance on project objectives and technical approach are provided but autonomous execution is expected. Projects involve the extension of present or new technology in one or more areas, involving improvement and/or development of processes, materials and testing techniques. Projects are assigned by supervisor and are several weeks to months in duration.
  • Supports senior engineers and scientists in R&D team with their projects.
  • Manages and documents projects and tasks effectively with supervision.
  • Take leading role in aspects of lab management: safety, equipment maintenance, 5S, lab audit preparation and action follow-up, lab postings, regular equipment checks etc.
  • Demonstrates open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility.
  • Conducts hands-on experimental work, follows good laboratory practices
  • Seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making.
  • Design and execute experiments for product and application development

COMPETENCIES:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary to communicate with the plant, with customers and to report progress on projects.
  • Ability to solve technical problems by combining literature search, scientific knowledge and hands on experiments.
  • Project management skills, be able to design experimental plans and execute; have ability to analyze results, draw conclusions and plan next steps.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Plastics Science and Engineering or other related discipline
  • Relevant Co-op or intern experience is a plus.
