GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Summary:
The Supervisor of Environmental Health and Safety drives the development, implementation and monitoring of a sites EH&S programs, policies, and procedures. The represent EHS concerns on the Management Committee and ensures company compliance of government regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Coordinate, evaluate, monitor, and analyze EH&S programs/activities (including but not limited to air emissions, hazardous waste/materials management, chemical storage, Cal OSHA requirements and all other EH&S compliance issues). Develop and programs for monitoring of environmental pollution and occupational health.
· Directly responsible for environmental and health and safety system management i.e., OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001. Responsible for preparing, maintaining, and updating EH&S policies and procedures, audits, implementation in one or more sites.
· Direct the preparation and submission of EH&S regulatory agency applications, permits, reports, and correspondence, to ensure timeliness, accuracy, comprehensiveness, or compliance with regulatory standards.
· Oversee EH&S regulatory guidance to departments regarding design, development, and evaluation of new and existing processes. Coordinates regulatory/EH&S activities with company departments, divisions, other companies, outside public/private agencies. Communicate EHS issues and field concerns to/from management.
· Ensure ability to comply with current and future state mandated regulations and permits.
· Represent EHS in employee meetings and management committee. Communicate with employees throughout the facility to ensure regulatory compliance is strictly followed/enforced in individual job responsibilities. Maintains awareness across the organization about compliance/regulatory issues and the responsibilities of each individual in these efforts.
· Investigate internal and external complaints, gathering the data to support or refute such complaints. Interprets the data and recommends appropriate solutions/resolutions, where necessary.
· Manage and lead the Environmental Review Board (ERB) and the Emergency Response Team (ERT). Schedule periodic walkthroughs and internal audits to ensure compliance.
· Oversee workers compensation program and interface with insurance carriers.
· Manages and directs EH&S training programs based on specific site needs.
May manage a monthly budget or spend and account for labor planning and departmental expenses.
7 years of EHS experience as a generalist
Experience independently classifying and profiling state and federal hazardous wastes in accordance with the applicable regulatory laws.
Standard practices involved in solid waste and environmental management-related tasks and education.
Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations
4-year technical degree (I.E. bachelors) or equivalent experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Four year college degree, or equivalent experience resulting in broad knowledge of a field related to the job, such as accounting, marketing, business administration, agriculture etc., plus 7 years related experience and/or training, and 2 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED
Intermediate: Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing
Basic: Accounting, Enterprise Resource Planning, Human Resources Systems, Payroll Systems, Presentation/PowerPoint

- SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
7 years of EHS experience as a generalist
Experience independently classifying and profiling state and federal hazardous wastes in accordance with the applicable regulatory laws.
Standard practices involved in solid waste and environmental management-related tasks and education.
Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations
- (40) hours Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training and/or CHMM certification with basic knowledge/understanding of Chemistry, other certifications such as Title 22, Confined Space, and DOT preferred.
4-year technical degree (I.E. bachelors) or equivalent experience
