Summary

The Research Scientist will work with R&D leadership, with responsibility for planning and execution of scientific efforts for Kytopen. The qualified candidate will demonstrate the ability to independently execute Biology research and development as required for the development and use of the Kytopen Flowfect ® cell transfection systems. The candidate will be leveraging their expertise and understanding on genetic repair mechanisms involved with different gene editing technologies to broaden understanding and characterization of the Flowfect® platform. This individual will work in coordination with all internal and external personnel and resources required to deliver on the research plans. The Research Scientist will also possess and demonstrate expertise and skills required for these efforts, as well as collaborate and mentor other team members as needed.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, driven team player possessing strong analytical and communication skills with a background in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field.

Responsibilities And Duties (What We Need)
  • Design and conduct experiments to develop and support the Kytopen Flowfect® technology and application to different gene editing technologies.
  • Lead scientific efforts with internal strategic development to ensure milestones delivered with targets achieved. Support collaborator driven projects, which may include exploratory, investigative, or troubleshooting work.
  • Collaborate with and support the Engineering team in defining requirements, specifications, and procedures for Flowfect® technology platforms.
  • Work with project manager to coordinate schedules and deliverables.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in internal and external scientific efforts utilizing the Flowfect® technology, with an emphasis on applications of different gene editing approaches.
  • Identify and understand the role of different gene editing methods and implications on cellular drug product manufacturing.
  • Execute plans with Biology team in specific areas of interest, such as HSPC and immune cell editing.
  • Perform ex vivo/in vitro biological assays with an emphasis on flow cytometry, ELISA, and PCR.
  • Ensure excellent laboratory approach, adherence to protocol, and meticulous lab documentation.
  • Generate high-quality experimental reports for internal and external review.
  • Present at Lab Meetings, Project Meetings, or with external partners as necessary.
  • Perform statistical analysis on collected data sets.

Requirements (About You)

What:
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • At least 0-2 years (Ph.D.) or 4-6 years (M.S.) industry experience with a biotech, diagnostic, pharmaceutical company.
  • Experienced in mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique.
  • Experience in cell based assays such as multi-parameter flow cytometry, potency and metabolic assays.
  • Experience in biomolecular assays such as ELISAs, NGS/TIDE, ddPCR, qRT-PCR, and PCR.
  • Experience with current non-viral cell transfection processing solutions.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, root-cause-analysis, and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred (More About You…)
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience working with human HSPC and/or immune cells, including in vitro culture and genetic manipulation, viral and non-viral biomolecule delivery.
  • Experience with statistical software packages such as JMP or Minitab is highly preferred.
  • Experience with gene editing via current technologies (e.g. CRISPR, TALENs), including the ability to perform CRISPR screens with downstream functional assays.
  • Experience with leveraging high throughput screening for drug discovery and development.
  • Track record of platform development and technological innovation.
